what size are the door speakers and the tweeters in the dash.

looking to replace them as they sound really poor, what do you recommend as a good budget upgrade.

Hello mate, the mid/bass is 17cm/6.5 inch and the tweeters are housed in a 10cm holder but the tweeters themselves are tiny.

I used to run a set of Hertz Dieci DSK 165 component speakers which can be found in the link bellow, very good for the price and work very well off of headunit power if you don't plan on amping them.

When fitting the tweeters I just removed the standard ones from their holder and squeezed the new ones in place and used a bit of hot glue on the back just to secure them.

Yes, component speakers are the way to go.

Only thing I'd recomend is mounting the tweeters in the door cards and not in the dash pods. Bit this is up to you as there your ears ad you know what sounds best.

Also you can fit smaller speakers like 5.25 inch but you would need an adapter ring.

You'd be surprised, sometimes you could get a set for £20-30

I will borrow and update this thread a bit, as it was one of the better ones I found searching regarding replacement speakers for the dashboard in Polo 6N "mark 3".

This is in regard of my 1995 car with dashbord speakers only - I would like to swap these into an upgrade.

Some say 3.5", but I recon they are really 4" diametre OEM from Philips and 10W RMS (from what I find).

My goal is just to get a little better sound into the daily, but nothing auxilliary installation, doing a minor investment.

My best mounting comparison is from my mk2 Golf, and there it seems 4" speakers can ble applicated in the dashboard, but I need to be aware of finding something narrow at the base for not hitting the inforcement beam on torpedo-wall. In that car I mounted JBL GTO327 speakers (3,5", 39mm depth, 80mm wide at magnet) and they leave a dent on the sound deadening material.

I see Pioneer supplies 4" speakers with 43mm depth and 65mm diametre (TS-G10... units) at base OR 46mm depth and 70mm diametre (TS-E1002i).

My question then is as follows:

Would any of these improve my sound experience in gaining a little more on mid-low and high end of the frequency range? They are from 45 and 40Hz upwards.

Would these units dimension pose any installation difficulties in a simple swap without any further modifications/build-in?

Yes 4" speakers will fit into the dash openings. But for sound quality I would recommend 6.5" speakers (component setup) in the doors and then either mountin the tweeter in the dash opening or on the mirror back plates.

Alternatively you could run a three way component setup with 6.5s in the door 4inch midrange in the dash opening and a tweeter sow here in door panel/mirror/apost. 3way systems are a lot pricier but you could probably. And one up.

95's are 6n's, right? Or am I being dumb?

Yes, my late 95 is a very early 6N.

Found out from a deteriorated sticker (behind the light switch) that my car has the Blaupunkt 2-way speakers in place.

Anybody know the specifications of these then? The Pioneer 2-way 25W RMS speakers will go into the mk2 project then, as they will fit nicely.
