I'm looking for a mk2 or mk2f as i now have a garage to fill!

Spotted one last night, left a note on the windscreen. He got back to me today and we talked about the car.

I asked him what sort of money he was looking for it, and he said to offer him some money and see if he would take it.

Now, incase i offer him too much, could someone give me an evaluation for:

a 1992 Polo coupe, 1.0 engine and four speed box. Completely standard (used as a runabout)

64,000 miles on the clock, and good bodywork.

I'm thinking around £400 myself?

that sounds about right, if it was me I'd offer him £300. If he says yes, brillant, you're both happy, he can always increase on your offer if he wants, Don't pay more than £400 though as little crackers come up all the time. It just depends what price you put on the convenience of having it so local.

Yeah, speaking of local, there's another one within a mile of me which i'll check out possibly tonight.

It all depends really, the mk2f sort of fits into the category of old/scrap/runaround, but some people may take advantage of it being old and ask a little too much.

However, i have control here, i make the offers!

Sorry didn't see your comment there. I know, forgot to mention that. It only has a few months Mot, til March I believe, so that's why the guy might be happy to see someone offer him money for it. Then he can buy himself another runaround!

But to be fair, whats it gonna fail on. If it fails on anything other than rust it can be fixed with spanners and a haynes.

Tyres? Part worns if needed.

Brakes? Drums are £14 each and disks are £9.

Cracked windscreen? £cheap from here

Emissions? Give it a service.

Suspension? Probably gonna lower it anyway?

Considering the car is for a project, MOT doesn't really matter tbh.

But if i go as a lad looking for a runaround, then yes, MOT does matter and i can bid the man down.

Update: only went to see the car today.

Turns out he bought it for £800, he even showed me the reciepts. He says he'd sell it to me for 550.

I drove it and it feels awesome, i couldn't believe how nippy it was.

I now plan to get rid of my 6n and buy this mk3 as a daily runabout.

What does everyone think/suggest?

£550 should mean excellent condition inside and out, you want perfect mechanical condition, newish tyres and at least a few years service history for that money. g'luck.

It really is in good condition, it drives, turns and stops pretty well.

I'd quite happily pay 550 for it but then we have to get rid of the 6n.

I checked all the spots like wheel arches and battery tray for rust, but found nothing. The whole engine bay in general is clean, as is the interior, with the original cassette player/radio too.

ask for service history /old mot,s to back the mileage up buddy 64k is low for a 19 yr old car i,d wanna see some p.work to back it up for that money and do a history check on it as well make sure no advisories on last mot

No advisories on last mot, mileage seems genuine according to some paperwork and general condition of the car.
