VR6, 1.8T, 1.8 GTI's 8/16v, G60, 1.3 GT/G40 are ones i know of.

As it was a G60 then the 1.8 GTI lump will drop in as would another G60. (fitting the 1.8 GTI will leave you with a few loom plugs with no where to go.

VR6 fits with some chassis leg modification, not sure what work is needed for the 1.8T, think it would require welding engine mounts in.

Finding a subframe from a 1.3 golf would allow fitments of the GT or G40 engine.

How easy some of these would be depends if its a CE1 or CE2 loom.

so the most easyer of them would be to get a 1.8 gti lump then , cus i was thinking a 1.3 mk2 or mk3 polo lump ?

That will fit but i have a feeling the subframes are different, but swapping the subframe is only a few bolts if it is.

1.3 mk2 lump would make life easier as it wouldn't need an ECU loom fitting.

so would the mk2 1.3 go straight on the understanding i had all the right parts i.e exhaust ect or would this need a bit of work ???

bearing in mind its your first car i wouldnt opt for a VR or gti engine :p

2.0 8v GTI from amk3 golf/sharan/seat toledo (or alhambra cant remember) bit slow but torquey. Personally id be tempted to throw something interesting and diesel in it.

Sub frames are the same its the engine mounts that are different but they just bolt on and off

Ta for the correction. knew it was something you unbolted and swapped.

if its a first car id put in the standard engine tbh, youl never insure it otherwise

^^^ standard engine is a G60.....Ideal first insurance vehicle

i think hel struggle then whatever

For £700 you could buy a working Mk2 Golf...obviously wouldn't have the exterior/chassis mods this one has but it would save your insurance premium going through the roof.

We originally put the G60 in that about 4 years ago, hate seeing old cars come up not looking as good as they used to :(

I hadnt looked at the Price. :(

Ye. can pick up a decent 1.3 one cheaper than that.

thanks for the advice all , looks like I'm just going to get a mk2 1.3 depending on the insurance if that fails , if think its a 6n for me

Might he worth looking at 1.3 jetta's too, not sure how true it is but for some reason I'm thinking it might be cheaper to insure than a golf (due it its less sporty image).

yeah cheers may have to look into that , i got a quote for a golf it was 1800 plus 300 for the box and installation fees ect which is less than what i thought , but if i can get a lupo 1.0 for 1400 plus 300 for the other stuff the cheaper option will always sound more tempting however lupo will cot more to buy than a golf tho so i just need to go rob a bank and the deception would be easy !!!!!!!

You'll need to rob a Bank whatever you buy just to insure it. Have you even checked for quotes on anything yet?

Insurance is actually crazy, it's beyond me how anybody under the age of twenty five even drives a vehicle. It'll probably be way way cheaper for you in Cornwall, but if my insurance on a 1 litre 6N2 is £5k then I wouldn't think about anything beyond a 1.3/4 8 valve.

my insurance on a 1 litre 6N2 is £5k

Lol whut?

thats mental the most I have ever paid for insurance was £1400 on my 1.4 16v 100hp 6n2, its now 1k but my first year (when I was 17) was 900 three years ago.

I live in a HD postcode (the worst besides M and L for Insurance currently, supposedly), and I haven't got any no claims, so Insurance companies can basically straight up discriminate against me and price me out of the market. It's fucking ridiculous though, that a 300 quid 6N on third party fire and theft still gives me a quote of like £4500.

And just to put it in perspective, my friend pays £2500 anually for an 8 valve 6N2 despite having 3 years no claims.

Just drop the 3.6L R36 V6 in it :D
