Polo's Polo

Featured Replies

Well, i've been here a while and though it was about time I made a thread about my Polo.

Started with a green 2000 model tdi, 70000 miles on clock, really well looked after and a great service history......until I got my hands on it and black ice struck, only a month later...

So about a month later, went out and got another. This time a silver 2001 model with air con, and just had a refurbished gearbox, new clutch fitted and had a HiD kit on. Had over 160000 miles on clock, but was on a limited budget after insurance paid out, and paying my ridiculous £950 excess (which i never checked when taking out the policy... d'oh!) Picked this up reletively cheap compared to other 2 door tdi's......and a few month later, I think i found out why.

There was a whine coming from turbo everytime you accelerated, and eventually when going up the M1, it kinda blew it's insides up...i'm under the impression the guy knew it was on its way out and that's why it was so cheap. Another £450 for a refurbished turbo. Just before this, I sprayed the alloys black, new tyres all round and slapped some vinyls on, out of boredom.

Things were going well for another few months, until I went into the side of someone. Wasn't major damage but starting to think i'm a shite driver and Polo's are a bad omen for me lol.

So after knocking it back out best i could for now, sprayed the pillars matte black and took off the viper stripes (didn't really like them in the first place). Also replaced normal front lights with some black angel eyes.

Anyways, done a few other little bits to it; blue footwell lights and the Lupo trim that goes over the dials.

Currently trying to install an alarm, but its turning in to abit of a nightmare, as i've connected the appropriate wires to the central locking and indicators, but they still refuse to work :/

Think I may take it to an auto electrician, let them sort it...

Got a few other things to sort aswell

- new air con pump.

- new passenger side window motor. Mine works but you have to keep flicking the switch to put it up and down...changed all switches so i'm guessing it needs a new one.

- might also get a gti spoiler aswell, not sure.

Thanks for looking. Thoughts, opinions and ideas welcome :-D

Just something abit different i suppose.

I like the vinyls at the bottom of doors, breaks it up abit.....not saying it didn't look good completely silver, but with the alloys being black i though it went pretty well.

And the lights in the footwells are just to light it up when doors open or when interior light is on....most cars have footwell lights, thought it was abit strange the Polo didn't. Just a spur of the moment idea to put them in.

I realise it's not to everyones taste, but thanks for commenting all the same :)

Nice to see something different! I had wondered what viper stripes look like on a polo

Cheers :)

They looked alright :p got bored of them though.....don't quite know what kind of stuff was holding them on but they where a pain in arse to get off.

Quick update.

Got a new interior thanks to vw55raz. Cupra half leathers.

Also, finally got my alarm fitted.

Thanks for looking.

I must say, I am enjoying those vinyls along the side that run above the sills.

Cool car, but, as with all racey cars like this, it needs to go a tad lower. Not decked, just about 60/40 IMO and that would be sweet.

Yea, I'm thinking off getting some lowering springs - 40mm all round.

Mainly because the suspension is so soft it feels like your driving round in a boat...

the body roll going round corners is unbelievable.

personally i'd take off that polo strip on the side, just think it lets it down a bit :/

other than that it's a nice looking car :)

I was thinking of taking em off when i took the viper stripes off, never got round to it tho.

I like them, something different....plus, i don't notice them anymore just look like they're meant to be there.

Haven't updated in a while so though i would.

Had another accident, fiesta drove into side of me - wasn't happy and had to get another door :/ don't seem to have much luck with polos...

Anyways, had to get some silver paint and respray the new door, so thought as i was getting that, i'd get some r32 blue and re-spray my alloys, engine cover and mudflaps.

Also decided to tint my fogs blue. Not road legal but i don't use them and it's something different.

Next up: coilovers, soon as i can afford them.... which may take a while :p

Thanks for looking.

How have you got that lupo Dash cover to fit ?

Have you altered it?

Massive improvement, but I dont think that blue goes with silver IMO.

Its not the entire dash, it's the 6n2 dash just put the lupo dial fascia in place of the polos.

It screws in the same places just needed the back filing down abit to sit flush with the dash.

Massive improvement, but I dont think that blue goes with silver IMO.

I didn't know if it would, but i had the paint and took a leap of faith. It doesn't look too bad when you see it in person, pictures don't really do it justice...

Haven't updated in a while, a fair bit has happened.

First up, got a Powerflow backbox for £20. Really just to make the back end look a little better. Needs sorting out however as it's angled down under the car. Needs abit of exhaust bending and welding in to straighten it out.

Exhaust%20on.jpg

Next up, got a set of gti alloys for £100. Currently in the process of refurbing them. Polished lip with black centre. Some of the bolts sheered though and some of the heads rounded :/ need to get them out first.

New bolts:

New tyres for the alloys:

JOM coilovers :D

Coilovers fitted:

Also fitted a sharkfin aerial and wind deflectors.

Next up is to change the handbrake cables and new disks and pads all way round, then get the exhaust sorted and alloys refurbed, new speakers, gti splitter and whatever else I can think of doing...

Any comments, positive or negative, welcome :D

Looking good mate, I am absolutely in love with those seats! I know they're off a cupra but any more specific model, year colour etc? I need some of these!!
