Basicaly what have you had to do to get somewhere after your cars broken down?

My worst is probably when my throttle cable snapped on the bike carbs 2 miles from home, this was in the blue mk3.

Pretty much ripped out a speaker from the dash and wrapped the speaker wires arount the bike carbs throttle wheel, put them the the bonnet vents and controled them through the window, worked a treat!, quite hard to steer, change gear and accelerate at the same time though

Choke stuck on the old mk2. Used a hair pin to keep it half open/closed. Lasted about 5yards!

the usual pre 1994 exhuast hanger issues,

Last time it happened i was picking up a new rear section and the exhuast fell to the floor, had no tools to get anything off, so i reversed up a kerb and it snapped it clean off at the midbox, perfect

Had to snap off a bit of string that was part of the seat cover that was on the rear bench to hold the exhaust up on the way back from buying the car.

Id win if I had a saved picture of the yellow mk3, id slid into a central reservation slicing the front end of the car right upto the exhaust manfold, drove it back to mates house , remebering it had NO cooling system what so ever i thought it did pretty well.

This is after i found all the pieces missing and pushed all the body work back together

And the concil are charging me £2500 for a bit of barrier that was replaced a year ago, doubt my insurance company will be happy.

I went to the tip one time in the mk2 and both my rear hangers snapped on the way in. no problem, I found a discarded bedside lamp, ripped out the wire to it cut to size with my trusty penknife and hung the exhaust with that, lasted 6 months only got rid when i put a new exhaust on and replaced the hangers.

but really, last week the throttle cable barrel adjuster on my bike carbs pulled itself off and jammed down in the throttle wheel (cbr carbs so it's in the middle) I drove 25 miles home without going above 1500 RPM as thats all the pedal would give me without pliers to pull it out

Last jan my clutch went in southampton at my ex gf's house and I started it moving in 5th outside her house, got it all the way up the motorway (35 miles) in 5th gear, and the clutch finally said goodbye within walking distance of my house so had to call the AA to tow me home! Was so close I walked home and made a cuppa while I was waiting!

I had a simlar problem with heading to santa pod, about 10miles left of the jorney my clutch cable bolt said bye bye.

managed to get all the way there without it.

Fortunatly i could rev-match a few gears but not all :(

Amount of times iv gone home with one shoelace because the mk3 hangers have shit themselves is unreal

when i picked up my mk 2 about 5 min from the blokes house the exhaust came off (same as a lot of others from the sound of it) used the lanyard from my keys to hold it up. lasted over 350 milesbefore the heat got too much and it gave out so used the chord from my hoody to get the rest of the way home.

And on a mates car his accelerator cable snapped on actual throttle (engine side) so I just thread it through and back on itself and it held the 15 miles home and to get him to the garage.=D

Not much too exciting.

Exhaust snapped in half on my friends 106, fixed with a tea towel which he ran for several weeks haha.

Brothers input shaft seal went on his mondeo, do gearbox oil was leaking on to clutch making it slip.

Coke bottle lid, made a hole in it and put some pipe in.

Everytime we stopped we sprayed 2 litres of coke into the bell housing and topped up the gearbox level. And drove 700 miles from France to home haha

What was the coke for?

Degrease + clean

duck taped my alternator wire on to drop my mates off then drove home

Cable ties round the exhaust

I think everyone MK3 owner has had to do this. Except i had to get from Belgium like it

wen i put my backbox on for the firs time it was so bodged that i used a motorcycle chain and LOTS of cable ties to hold the whole exhaust up

Driving out of the gates at Stonor Park this June. Drive over the gate lock hole mechanism (only way out) and rip my exhaust off at the centre pipe and totally fucks the hangers on the chassis. Luckily I had a socket set so we refitted the exhaust at the 4 branch outlet and hung the backbox with a trusty bike innertube!

not really a bodge but when i collected my project half way home the heater matrix started giving my dad a food bath and steaming up the window screen . luckily we went the back roads through loads of little villages instead of the duel carriageway . instead of driving the car with no coolant every village we got too we knocked on someones door and asked for some water , and i just stuck my head out the window the hole way home to see.

i always have zip ties in my car. 'nuff said.
