Car lost all water, pulled pipe from washer jet, put it in the header tank and got the missus to hold the wash wipe on to refil header ha,

Single wiper conversion bust when it was pissing it down so i used speaker wire through driver andpassenger window and me and passenger worked it manually,

got drivers window stook in the down position, ripped door card off and used speaker wire straight from back of stereo to window motor terminals to get it back up. the wire wasnt long enough to go directly to battery

My dad had a modified chevette hse years ago, sold it when I was about 2 or somethin, but I always remember a story he told me about it.

He was doing some work on it at a friends and was smoking a cigar at the time, he left it in the ashtray and forgot about it... burnt the interior out and the windscreen went with it. His cousin then came to the rescue, and between them somehow got it going again with a deck chair strapped to the floor, using wood and ratchett straps though the car (out one door and under the floor and in through the other door*) His cousin volunteered to drive it back to my dads, so he drove behind my dad who was driving his car. Well billy had never driven the chevette and was 'excited' at how fast it was and sped off. Then as they're driving back, they pass someone on the side of the road who had broke down, and billy, in a car with no windscreen or interior, stopped to offer assistance....while a police car was showing up to the scene. My dad told him to hurry up and get out of sight, which he did. And drove the 25miles back in it with a face full of bugs and a 50's-esque slicked back hair doo..

Sorry for the essay but its just the way my dad tells me about it lol

*He's got pics somewhere I'l ask if I can scan them in to show you how ghetto it was haha

i'm not here to impress people haha

call me stupid but it was in 2 cars we got for the winter to wreck about in and at night with no cars on the road so not that dangerous tbh

Had to use a shoe lace to hold up the power steering pump on my Vento once.

i always have zip ties in my car. 'nuff said. :ninja:

You and me both mate!

This

Plenty under my seat. I'm yet to suffer the exhaust box problem, As my backbox is non standard, and has always been hung from a hanger bolted through the rear valance :paranoid:

I think most of my truely dodgy ones have been recoveries not "temporary repairs".

The record being dragging a fully loaded LWB hightop transit in with a 1 litre bready. I kept to a sensible speed of 20-30mph, or "flat out" as it also happened to be.

I'm a little worried about clubpolo, the posts further back; where everyone should be in bed with the missus or to wankerd to type?

not really a bodge but i just drove home without 1st or 2nd gears due to pedal box breaking

so used 3rd when car wanted to or had to turn of the car select 1st and start back up

was going fine in 5th untill i noticed a few deep puddles along the road with what looked like tissue floating about. couldn't change gear so plowed through doing 30 in 5th the car hit said puddles, slowed to the point of almost stalling and covering it in murky brown water and leaving a distinctive smell.

due to heavy rain the local pump house drains had flooded the road

going to be fun cleaning the car tomorrow, any volunteers?

LOL!

Bailer twine to hold up my exhaust on the RS125

Aprilia SR80, Chainsaw Oil instead of 2T oil after the engine shat itself...

Empty can of stella with both ends cut off and cable ties to hold my exhaust together on ye old Almera...

Split the sump on the VR6.. started dribbling out but luckily I didn't completely smash it to bits

Luckily I had 4l of magnatec in the boot, drove it as fast as possible whilst avoiding revving too high and stopping every minute or so to top up for the 4 miles home, was intense  Got to the driveway and it shat itself dumping the remaining oil all over our path...

Drove all the way home, about 5 miles in second gear as the linkage had broke on my saxo, people behind went very happy :(

Exhaust rubbers snapping after spinning on the M3 - used my tie to secure it - then reversed off the slip road - and drive at less than 50mph back home with hazards on!

I know it was dangerous but at the time - it was the only way!

strongbow can and exhaust paste to stop exhaust blowing..

Done this, but mat have well been perminent

wow some of these bodges actually make me laugh especially the saxo one because i dislike them

McDinalds Straw to connect a fuel line back together when it was split going over a speed bump.

Drove the car back around 1/2 a mile very causiously . When i got back the straw melted in my hand when removing it.

Youthful fail but i limped the car home

just the usuall speaker wire to hold up backbox on my old mk3 gt and i got pulled by the old bill cos apprantly my lights kept going off and on i had a dodgy connection on my alternator lol he let me off because the copper used to have a g40

I got forced into a huge pot hole in the middle off knowhere and my exhaust fell off, so i walk up the lane looking in the verge till i found something to tie it back on with. eventually i found a small peice off rope and a thick piece of rubber, tied the rope and the rubber together wrapped it round the exhaust and crawled it to the closes garage.

Not really bodges but when driving my girlfriends mini, the back box broke off and wrapped itself between the wheel and arch, so I jacked it up yanked it out and drove home.

Have also had the rear box fall off a mk2 and the whole exhaust fall of on a mk4, drove home with both of them dragging on the floor as i was so close to home. I don't have much luck with exhausts

haynes should add an additional few pages to there manuals with content from this thread lol

a "get you home" section

Used to drive a Mk2 Cavalier with the back doors and bootlid welded on to stop them falling off.

did a burnout in my mk2 for a laugh, and the vibrations made my whole exhaust fall off from 4 branch back  was a loud trip home!

Was picking some seat up from Manchester, exhaust decided to fall off 20 miles before getting there, fees cables ties and it was back up again. Only lasted 5miles before it fell off! Removed the back box and mid box exhaust rubber broke. Drove to pick the seats up, and back to Blackpool with the mid box scrapping the road.

Also head gasket blew 10miles from home, not really a bodge to a testiment to the mk3 engine, it got me home! Couldn't go above 30mph which wasn't fun on a national speed limit A road! Gave up on my driveway!

this isn't really a bodge to get me home but it was a bit dangerous at times.

I was about 60 miles from home and hit a kurb when parking to collect something, bent the wheel and popped the tyre. I still had the spare in the boot so lobbed that on the front (it was the front that went pop) then had to drive, on the motorway, on a space-saver wheel, not exceeding 50MPH as that's all the tyre is rated for... it was fine, until I got to one of those double motorway entrances, the first on-slip was fine, the second, i was level with a car transporter, fully loaded and i couldn't accelerate to get out of the way, so i had to slow right down (dropped to about 25), in lane 1 of a live carriageway to let this lorry join, bearing in mind, i couldn't go into the middle lane due to lack of available speed. That was by far and a way, THE MOST scared i've ever been, just knowing that there was nothing i could really have done.

Other than that, i've put electrical tape on a spider-crack in my windscreen to stop it from cracking completely, and also drove home with 2 wheel bolts in the front wheels as i sorta forgot to fully tighten them, just did them with a 12v impact wrench and left them at that - i'll not make that mistake again!

*touches wood* - i've never broke down so not needed to bodge anything...
