I would have done more than 50 but my mum was in the car, and there was very little tread left on the tyre so i didn't really want to risk a blow-out, especially in my first year of driving!

-and i've done the wire/coathanger trick when my accelerator cable snapped near preston on the m6.

Ran out of fuel on the m4 when we picked up my 2nd GT. Pushed the car for about a mile with a sign on my back asking for a TOW. Guy stopped and i realised i didnt have a tow rope so we cut the fence at the side of the road and used that. Only a thin bit of wire, but it got us the 3 miles further to the petrol station. Guy was an absolute legend and never got to thank him properly. Didnt want any money for doing it either, just glad he could of helped.

I also pulled over on the motorway at seeing a mk3 with its exhaust off because of the standard back box area fault. I had the same metal wire in the car at the time so i pulled over and used it to help them out by tying it up around the rear beam to get them home. They were a oldish couple and were happy that I came to their aid.

Polo G40 brake cylinder popped at the rear, leaving the car with no brakes.

Stuck a vice grips on the flexi at that side and drove home with 3 brakes and a very spongey pedal. Safe!

Amount of times iv gone home with one shoelace because the mk3 hangers have shit themselves is unreal

Mine failed so i dug a bungy cord out the boot. one end hooked to exhaust tip and other end hooked inside boot. worked a treat as long as i didnt accelerate too hard! Left it on after i fixed the hangers as it seemed to stop people tailgating for some reason?!!!!

Brought a mk3 with a redbull can and some stiff wire covering a hole! Not my bodge granted and wiiiiiiiings it didnt have!

I think most of my truely dodgy ones have been recoveries not "temporary repairs".

The record being dragging a fully loaded LWB hightop transit in with a 1 litre bready. I kept to a sensible speed of 20-30mph, or "flat out" as it also happened to be.

Not really a bodge to get you home, but when my dad was younger he bodged his drivers seat up in an old fiesta van with a bit of 4 x 2

Got shunted up the arse in traffic, boot came open on impact, 4 x 2 came out of place and he rolled out of the boot !

I was going to South Wales camping, pulled in a petrol station about 30 miles from the camp site, hit a raised grid on the fore court and off came the exhaust for the cat back.

After waiting half an hour for the exhaust to cool down chucked it in the boot and off we went. It was almost deafening going up steep hills in 2nd gear on country roads. I bet the locals didn't appreciate too much at 11.30pm either

Managed to bolt it back on and strap it up with some bicycle brake cable the next day, although the hangover I had from the night before didn't help :p
