Claiming an Untaxed Car

Featured Replies

Moved into my house 2 weeks and there was a Megane convertible parked outside, untaxed and uninsured, and sometime last week the DVLA came round and clamped it and shoved a Untaxed sticker on it.

Its in good condition as well (for a renault). from what I've been told by the neighbours it belonged to a family that lived in the street but moved away.

So does anyone know what the process of claiming the car would be?

Or if this from PassionFord is correct?

Yup fill out a v62, send cheque for 25 notes, wait. They contact reg owner, if no reply you get a v5 in your name. You may have to pay any outstanding fees etc on the car.

Be wary tho, the v5 isnt proof of ownership, so if the prov owner does have proof, u have a v5 and have paid the fines, i reckon they possibly could get you done for twoc. Best speaking to a copper about legalities around car ownership

Ye. think i might be off for a trip down the cop shop later in search of info.

There appears to be nothing wrong with the car, even the soft top is intact.

this may help

Thanks for that.

The car is on the street and the yellow sticker and clamp has been on it for over 7 days now. so chances are come 3rd of Jan when the DVLA re-opens that they will remove it.
