Yep very true, double the points and a much cleaner more reliable engine. The two key rules of car ownership to my mind, always use the best oil and fuel.

Totally agree with you mate. When I cleaned my EGR valve out on my Avensis it looked like a soft black velvet and really easy to clean. Spme I've seen looks like its a baked on carbon due to the poor super market fuels that some use. Just glad my Polo doesn't have an EGR as this is killing modern diesels!!!...

i used v power but didnt rate it tbh. ran it for a few tanks. i dont think its neccesary to use vpower and millers? just one or the other.

Town - 51.3mpg

performance is alot better, pick up on turbo is from 1500rpm straight to 4300rpm and it inst too sluggish for a 1.4 3 cylinder anymore. I'm very very impressed with this tuning box for the money (second hand ebay £20) i had my fabia mapped the day i got it and the performance was +50bhp (180bhp) and mpg was -

motorway - 53mpg

Town - 32 - 40mpg (depending whether i booted it alot)

So id say for the cost side of things the tuning box is great value for money £180 cheaper than my remap was on the fabia, But if you want alot of power then go for a map but I'm more after alittle bit of torque and better mpg whic the tuning box has done great.

Interestingly if any of you have a Honda ictdi (Civic/Accord/CRV) we are the only company to have successfully mapped out the EGR loop. A few companies tried and failed and disabled stuff like cruise control or VSA in the process. We persevered and after a few months of testing and fine tuning (inc 10k mile test in my own car) we succeeded. If you can close off the egr valve, you'll have a much cleaner engine and better throttle response.

Tuning boxes are not a gimmick and do make the power, but you just need to understand 'how' they make it. Once you do, you'll not really want to use one.

Yep, they adjust one single variable out of many that need to be adjusted to achieve a balanced tune. They trick the ECU into then over-working everything else to try and compensate which of course delivers extra power but not in an efficient way i.e. the engine starts to work hotter and harder than it should. When you have at your disposal all the variables inc the ability to adjust fuel pressures not just at the rail, but also the pump, the fuel duration and cycling and even spray pattern on modern injectors.. you can start to see and understand why a tuning box can never really be compared to a professionally calibrated remap.

We've had many customers now that have gone from tuning boxes to remaps and will never go back. I've also had the customers with broken pumps and knackered engines due to build up from over fuelling by use of tuning boxes. To me, they're a surefire way of eventually killing your engine. However as with anything in life, you pays your money and takes your chances, so if its working for you and you're happy... just keep doing it.

I have 2 TUNIT boxes. One on my Avensis and the other on my 1.4TDi Polo and they really do work. Has anyone managed to crack the Denso ECU on Toyota yet as I hear it cant be done? I've love to get rid of the D-CAT and EGR if I could and do a proper remap like I had on my Audi A6 3.2 32V...

tuning boxs will give you more power,mpg but a map will do a whole load more. your fuel figures are much better now, normal. 49 mpg is the official figure on this car for city driving. did you use the bg244? good init?

I paid £130 for my TUNIT box and it still had over 2 and a half left on the warranty! Not bad when they are £485 new!!! I get 54mpg round town and 66mpg on the m-way at 65mph. Running a K&N air (Just cleaned today) and good old BG244, which is amazing stuff and well worth the £20 :grin:

Nobody's cracked the Toyota/Lexus D4D range mate. It's not impossible to do, but to be honest the technology vendors we use to provide our tuning equipment have lost interest and are trying to keep up with the latest generation of stuff. My 2012 BMW 520D for example is not tunable (yet). It's running the latest generation of encryption and for the first time the car manufacturers are possibly one step ahead of the tuners... It's really a cat and mouse game, but we'll have a solution soon

still not got my bg244 off ebay yet but will try this when iget it, still using my red-ex at the min. i think i could get 50mpg around town if i did more of it but as i rarely do town this maybe the reason, will a stainless exhaust make any difference to mpg with is being less restictive??

Thats what I heard regarding the Denso Ecu mate. I think it will be sometime b4 anyone cracks the little bugger so we can get a propper map(s) like the Audi boys have for there motors. I really like the BMW 5 series and would love a 535d with those twin turbos singing there heads off. Oh happy days :-)
