Hope someone can point me in the right direction...

I've had a problem with the passenger door not locking when I lock the car from the driver's door. I can manually lock the passenger door with the key.

The central locking on the driver's door works, but the plunger on the passenger door doesn't drop and I need to open the door and manually push the plunger down or lock it with the key.

Once both doors have been locked, the vacuum pump keeps running until it finally cuts out.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Could be a split diaphragm in the pump, i've seen this before.

I have a fully working pump and I'm in Sunderland if you wanna swap it out and try it?

sounds like a leak from one of the pipes from your central locking pump

If there was an air leak, shouldn't I be able to hear it?

Am I right in saying that the pump keeps running because a switch hasn't been activated on one of the door plungers or is there a pressure switch on the pump? But saying that, even when I manually drop the plungers on the doors, the pump keeps running?

As has been suggested, perhaps trying another pump is the way to go? Well, there are two 6n polos in the family so I may just have to try the other one in the car!

It keeps running because there is either an air leak as brummy said, or as Panda said faulty pump. Not neccessarily no, it could be under the carpet or in the door itself. It would usually stop when it has pressurised all the door pumps/locks, however it keeps running because one isn't being reached (the left one).

Check that the connector is actually conntected to the left door central locking system and also check the hoses and connections at the pump in the boot! And yeah swap pumps and see if that makes a difference, however i'd put my money on the air leak for passenger side!

Most probably the connection at the a post.

Open your door and locate the black rubber tube between the door and a post, there is a ring going around it where it meets the car, twist this anti clockwise.

Once removed look for the big round connector, there should be an o ring around it. I would recomend outing a little dab of silicone around the male side of this connection and then connect it back again.

The o rings sometimes fail or the clips holding the female side on place wear out, the silicone holds them in place.

I've disconnected the air pipe at the pump, run the pump, and there is vaccum.

As soon as I cover the inlet to the pump, the pump stops so it looks like the pump is good and there IS a leak somewhere!

I'll report back when/if I find the leak...

Right, I've disconnected both connectors on the A-posts and exposed the air pipe connections. I've blocked both pipe connections on the A-post and the pump still runs!

So, the leak must be else where.

Does anyone know where the air pipes run within the car? Even better, does anyone have a diagram?

Yes, either the tailgate or the fuel flap.

To check the tailgate open the boot then inside the little grab handle there is a screw. Once removed pull the top of the plastic (near the window) downwards and slide forwards. It should be a green pipe connected to the actuator.

For the fuel flap ( more likely )

Completely disconnect the locking pump and remove. Then remove the polystyrene thing that holds the pump. Now look into the opening and you should see the plastic pipe follow this to the actuator which is boltEd to the inner panel. Best to undo both screws and remove it. Have a close look at the little rubber boot where the metal rod comes out from. Chances are it has a hole in it. If so replace the unit.

Also I would put a dab of silicone sealant onto each connection, on the male side of the actuator.

The vacuum pipes run down the drivers sill and then iirc acros the dash and to the passengers door.

Is yours a four door?

Right folks, found the problem.

As was suggested above, the fuel filler flap solenoid is to blame.

The external rubber diaphragm has split and is leaking air.

I've removed the solenoid and blocked the air feed pipe until I get a replacement, but now the central locking works!
