16v g40

Featured Replies

Ok so I bought an engine stripped it all down as rings where shot it is a afh block which has been bored out to just over 77mm. And the pistons are 77mm it has forged pistons and rods. It was a number on top of the piston 03607 cant find the pistons on the internet anywhere I have a funny feeling they are 77mm g40 pistons. Does anyone know where I can get some rings from I can get ring sizes like thickness if required and pic to see if anyone has the same pistons so can find the correct rings. Hope all that makes sense. Not had much look on the internet and wossner just dont seem to be interested when I phoned them. Many thanks in advanced dan

Ring Vw up and see if that is a Vw number ? That might get the ball rolling ?

try accralites website - but their pistons have it on the bottom of the piston not the top. i maybe wrong

accralite or wossner do 77mm g40 pistons. However normally these are just under 77mm - 76.95mm etc. so its 77mm with rings compressed (if i remember correctly). JE also do g40 pistons in 77mm i believe.

I do recall one guy with a g40 had his bore bored to 77mm, then honed after so was just over 77mm and it was just too big so breathed heavily. He had to start afresh with a new block. So just be careful with the measurements.

G40 and afh pistons are totally different, afh are flat top with 4 small cut outs for valve clearance where as g40 have a big bowl in the top. I don't think its possible to use g40 pistons in a 16v

^^ What he said - the compression ratio would be unworkably low at something like 5:1
