Hello, i just wanted to see if anybody could help me here :)

I got my polo about a month ago and now want to start tinkering :p

But my problem is that i cant quite figure out what the exact model i have

Its either a 6n or a 6n2

I know the whole MK3 and MK3 PII argument against what we call MK4 and MK5, but I was led to believe VW designated them the Typ 6N and Typ 6N2?

Do VW class the 6N 94-2000?? It does on Wiki.

Nahhh, the car we know to be the 6N2 is a facelift of the 6N which is technically a MK3, so it's a MK3F (or MK3 Phase II)

As for the 6N and 6N2 stuff it is confusing, just had a look through ETKA and all I can seem to work out is that it's a time thing, with the latest chassis codes before the 9N being 6N-2 and the crossover codes (year 2000) being 6N-Y.. I'm just gonna stick to MK4 and Mk5..

I was under the impression that chassis number wise they all started with 6n followed by random numbers and letters and after a certain combination they were 6n2's

so let me get this straight... Its Mk3 6n2?

It's a 6n2. Mark numbers aren't widely used even on here after the mk4/6n. I'd debatably call it either a facelifted Mk4 or just a Mk5, but others would disagree.

This actually happened to me at a Garage, They said what polo isit? Said: Mk4 - They went you sure looks like a mk3 to me.... So I had to use the reg for Year of model. Then I explained about the Mk numbers >.<
