thinking about it, what culd be done to up the power of a 1.0 1043cc polo engine?

obviously you could do the usual of air filter and exhaust

what other little tricks have you seen that realy do help?

obviously you could turbo or supercharge it, which would allow the engine to run at peak efficiency and also give it more power.

If you have the 45bhp engine in a Mk4 your best best is either getting over it or weight saving.

as you said, filter,exhaust, uprated plugs/leads,port n polish head, re profile cam ect, pretty much same as what youd do to any other n/a engine, however you will spend a hell of a lot of money to get not alot of power gain. try like said above, do a few little bits like your exhaust and filter then try some weight saving, youd be suprised at what a difference sheding some weight can do

In this case, I'd be inclined to say there's no replacement for displacement. Yes, you can in principle do a a lot of things, but you could do the same stuff to a bigger engine just as easily, and polo engines aren't exactly expensive.

Service it. Make sure your tyres are at the correct pressures. Don't carry anything around that you don't need.

That will probably see more benefit than chucking and exhaust and filter on it.

i dont mind the power in the car, i was just seeing what can be done, and said by eurorob, i just want a prject, to see if it can be pulled off.

Why not turbo or charge a 1 litre VW bring one out this year in the new UP

Yep, I love whizzkid/cappacino's, but they weigh a fair bit less than a 6n and are meant to be an involving drive. That said, they're not out and out fast, a lot of it's about the perception of speed because of how low down in you are in such a tiny car and how they handle.

how far you wanting to go? what sort of budget do you have?

i had a cinquecento sporting for my first car, spent £3k on the engine alone (stupid when i look back) but did acheve 98bhp (standard 58bhp) and was pretty quick back in the day (9yrs ago). i never saw the money again when i sold it which is one aspect you need to look at but i loved every minute of tunning,tinkering and moddifying it. if thats what you want to do then go for it but as i said before it is alot of money that has to be spent to not get a large gain

I know you can have 1.0 with turbos, such as Charades and Figaros...we have a customer at work with a Charade who can run sub 14's on the strip in it...the things an animal.

But you can't just bolt one on a standard engine without blowing it up.
