Polo 1.4 TDI Problem

Featured Replies

Hello just brought a Polo 1.4 TDI

39K, Car drives mint.. only problem I've noticed is it makes a noise when starting and it drives fin each gear works fine. Also it leaks oil at the front of engine.

Any ideas what it could be. It doesn't make the noise when starting from cold either.

Pictures of where the oil is leaking would help.

Noise when starting could be various things, without hearing it,its difficult to tell what it could be. Possibly starter? Dual mass flywheel?

I'm not sure on the oil leak yet but it seems quite bad, but it starts fine when cold... however once warm it makes the noise from starting but then runs mint and like idle upto or slightly over 1000rpm and then comes back down.

Dual mass flywheels expensive?

really need to hear the noise. is it the starter screaching after sstarted. is it a rattling sound after starting. if it was your DMF you might experience judder, shakey startups, rattling etc

The 1.4 TDi only has a SMF and not a DMF :0)

Well it does on my 2003 9no anyway
