I'm 25 and passed my test just under a month ago, insurance on my 1.0l 1996 Polo was £1040, when I had mechanical issues I looked at quotes for other cars, some much more powerful and they were coming out at about the same price. When I first insured the Polo it was the cheapest car to insure I could find.

So, I got a quote for the same 1.0l Polo, and now all of a sudden I can get the insurance for £730! Would there be any problem with taking out that new insurance and canceling my existing policy? Can the exit penalties be that bad?

All seems quite odd! Possibly relevant info, I am also insured on the Missuses car (although I was when I bought the Polo).

ring up, find out how much it will cost to get out of your current policy (if you paid in full, i can tell you now, it wont be worth canceling) however if you pay monthly it may well be worth doing, just dont forget you will have to wait a further 12 months to get your no claims bonus

admiral are 30 quid cacel fees but they can waver these if your taking a new policy out with them

I'll only be a month in, so the later NCB isn't a major problem :)

Looks like the admin fee is only £40, and they refund for any unused premium! So best get it done in the next few days, before I've had the policy more than a month! :)
