NE Scotland - who rebuilds gearboxes

Featured Replies

Morning guys and gals,

My gearbox is making whirring noise in every gear, gets louder when clutch depressed, also faster you go higher the pitch on the whirring noise, as you slow down pitch/tone of noise gets lower but louder, have a feeling its possibly the pinion bearing in gearbox rather than clutch, seems more affected by speed than gear changes etc. Its still selecting gears fine for the moment.

questions are

A) would i be right in thinking this is gonna be a gearbox rebuild/renew jobbie, and

B) Does anyone know any reputable garages/people near Aberdeen/Aberdeenshire who could do a relatively good priced rebuild?

Its my only car, and having a house and bills to pay can afford to go buy another car just now, also need the car for work as drive 80 miles round trip per day and no public transport from my house to work :(

if need be I can take a few days holiday from work until this is done as wouldnt have any other way of getting there, and need to pay bills etc...

All this after an expensive MOT too at xmas, not good.... :?

what you owned my wee girlie? awesome, when did you get rid of her, and where u from?

yea GB oil level has been topped up, it quietened it down a bit, but noise is still there, not as noticeable until your slowed down to about 30mph, but at slow speeds its quite noisy.

When gearbox oil was topped up there was some run off of brown oil - would this be swarf - sorry I'm a girl and not up to speed on that stuff, basic mechanics is about all I can manage :(

Mines started to whine in second gear, but fine in all other gears. Bit of a pain considering i haven't had it long.

Hope you get it all sorted!

hiya, it would appear that the gearbox is ok, think the clutch is on its way out now tho lol - I know women drivers lol :retard:

also got the vibrating sorted out as well, rear mount for exhaust was broken, what a racket it made. You be about on wed night at all and Ill have a mosey up - i am sure youll be able to tell me if the noise I am hearing is usual or not being her prev owner an all that :unibrow:

Yeah should be free Wednesday night, come up between 5 and 8, you know where the garage is. I should be there.

Hiya, wont make it up tonight with car, had a major slide out yesterday on way home from work and went headlong into a ditch after a 480degree spin :( not having ABS is a pain at times. Thankfully I managed to avoid any other cars, so can get it repaired without having to go through insurance....So now on look out for a 6n2 front end, indicators and radiator - headlights etc fine, but grill, indicators and radiator took the brunt of it - engine turns and runs fine tho so thats a bonus. I am just not having any luck with it at the moment - think I'm jinxed - if you hear of anyone with mentioned parts then let me know.

Pictures of the damage?

Might still have a few 6n front bits tucked away somewhere.

Its sitting in Ellon today, getting towed up to my ex's garage tonight to do some cosmetic repairs so I can park it at mine - I've nowhere to put her just now other than on the road. My damn phone is buggered so cant take pics or upload them, but your welcome to come have a look at her - gutted isnt the word :crybaby:

Ill PM you my mobie number as prob easier to talk to you that way.

ill also do my best to get a couple of pics this evening and hope that my phone decides to play nice - if you sent me a text I can sent a pic to you mobile while writing a text, thats the only way that the camera works at mo....modern technology huh
