Hey guys, I think I have a central locking problem and was wondering if someone could help me out?

I have a VW Polo MK5 2001, 3 Door 1.4 16V.

Basically this all started when my mate opened the boot of my car through the boot lock. Since then my central locking has been playing up for some reason..

When I put my key in my drivers side door it only locks and unlocks the driver side door BUT not the whole car like it should do. Also everyone who has a MK5 polo knows that it makes a sound when everything locks at once, now it doesn't make that noise..

None of my lock switches work on the driver side door underneath the window switches..

I discovered that when I locked my car it had only locked the driver side door and the passenger side door was still unlocked when I came back to it!

Also the boot doesn't unlock so now I have to use a key to open it all the time.

A lot of writing I know but just needed to explain it in detail.

Has anyone had any problems like this before? Really need to sort this out! Could do with some help for sure!

you checked the CL fuse?

you checked the CL fuse?

How do I check that mate? Is it located under the driver side door card?

theres the layout. they should be either under the steering collum or if its like my golf, will be on the right side of the collum with the door open

Fuses are behind the cubby hole under the steering wheel. As said check the fuses. If they are okay, it could be the pump is knackered

Check the wiring in the rubber boot that goes from the door pillar to the door . Turn the plastic nut and the plug will work its way out off the piller , then pull the rubber boot back and you will find split/broken wires . I think ( not 100% sure ) the wire that controls the pump is yellow , you can check this at the pump in the boot on the drivers side . Check that the wire is ok if it is you will need to check the other door too as they all seem to have to be ok for the pump to work.

I hope this helps but check the wiring before righting the pump off.

Checked the fuses and it looks like everything is fine around there, going to be checking the pump tomorrow as I couldnt really see much it being so dark and all.

id replace the fuse anyway mate, 2 quid for a fuse at max and then you know the fuse is ok. can LOOK ok without actualy being ok

Just checked all the fuses and they are all okay.

Went down to the local car electrician where he has all the tools and such but I only just caught him parking his boat up, booked my car in with him for tuesday for him to take a look at. Lets hope its nothing too serious hopefully just some dodgy wiring inside the doors..

ALSO.. came outside to my car this morning and both my windows were down all the way! Car was locked as well.. must have happened over night or something really random..

After it being down the electricians he checked the car over and the windows are fine it was my central locking pump that was the problem.. it had somehow got water inside it causing it to short circuit and then fail..

Now looking into buying a new one! The electrician said he rang up VW gave them the part no and they quoted him £230 + VAT which is ridiculous!

Second hand pump should be around £20 max from here or a scrappy.

Make sure you wrap the new one up in clingfilm or a plastic bag to stop moisture getting inside

reason it did that with the windows is probrably linked to the problem, if you unlock the car and hold the key all the windows go down, then back up when you lock and hold it

yea its an odd feature, closing windows i understand but opening is a bit odd...though handy if you leabe something in there and cba to open the door :p

Got my used C/L Pump today! Works like a dream and I wrapped it in a carrier bag too so hopefully that won't happen again anytime soon!
