basiclyif you go thru the insurance which ever way it goes I'm pretty sure they will write that off sadly due to age of vehicle and what its worth, insurance will only accept genuine parts for repairs and I'm guessing theres at least an £800 job there, insurance wont value your car at that sort of money wo will be written off, best bet is to stay on at them and fightyour corner and hopefully youl get a decent settlement

yeah i only paid 500 for the car but its down on the insurance as "<£1000"

would that make any difference or not?

if your car does get written off (hope not) keep on at your insurance company to try and buy it back off them done that with a caddy i had a few years ago bought it for £150 got £800 back from the insurance company and bought it back off them for £150. spent £100 on parts to get it back on the road and made a profit off £400 not to bad and that went back for my insurance for a year.like a say worth a try

nope...

it goes off market value unless you have an agreed valuation on the car.

They will say your car is worth 300 and then you prove that that its worth £800 after supplying a load of adverts for similar cars and then you agree on 700.

Basically that's how it works :)

oh right okay :) fairplay!

in those types of junctions, officially, it's whoever gets to the end first has right of way. I generally just wait for them to make their move, when they've gone, I was the next car waiting so proceed when it's safe to do so.

Gutted for you though, i had an accident in my first year (the other guy hit my p/s door, i was already on the road, he joined it, via me) but he just stopped responding so it was closed with no loss of NCB to me, i've still got to declare it but i put the value as £0 as that's how much was actually transferred

i'd notify insurance (as you legally have to) but just tell them that it's "notify only" and that you'll sort it out yourself - that way, you've done what you have to, they don't get involved and it shouldn't affect next years premium. Get to a scrappy and gather the parts you'd need and if there's a fellow dubber locally, they may help you out (for beer tokens / beer / and sometimes, free)

Also, (hind-sight is a bitch, and you learn from experience) i'd have left the cars exactly where they were (at the impact point, you'd only be blocking the road a few minutes) take pics from all angles, then move the cars to safe places and exchange details etc.

Edit: i hope that makes some sort of sense!

must be something about new drivers and red polos lol, I did the same in my first wee red diesel polo, wrote her off at 10mph cos she slid under the rear bumper of a meriva or something ;) worst thing was I had just filled the tank to the brim :( but there was no buying her back, radiator was in the engine :( hopefully you'll find another wee polo, and like other posters have said, take your time and let them go, a few seconds wont make you any later / earlier than you would be otherwise, and it means your car and your life are yours for a long time :)

Bad luck. But with all due respect, in that situation you wait until the person is either at a crawling pace or has started to turn into the junction

Unlucky mate, Sure they'll write it off. Wouldnt be suprised if they wrote the 207 off too tbh.

The things they write cars off for now is silly really.

Hope you manage to get it all sorted nice and cheap. I'm sure people on here will help you out with bits at decent prices. Fight your corner with the insurance company though if you need to.

i rang them again today and he said a 'specialist department' is looking into it :/ but he asked me loads of questions about how much damage has been caused and what journeys id do in a courtesy car? so i dunno if they have made up there mind or not but i really want my car back :(
