whilst changing height on my coilovers the other day the car fell off the trolley jack and has severely damaged the sill causing a fold and a couple of big dents, my mate made it worse by trying to fill it so now it looks terrible

my question is this;

is it possible to by second hand sills in the correct colour ( white) or will i have to get a standard sill and have it fitted and painted?

is it a failure on mot to have a dented sill?

even if you get on ethe same colour it will need welding in and painting! pics would help us alot buddy!

think I've done this to every polo I've owned

i was pissed right off as the dent was huge

that never made it to another m.o.t

i wouldnt have thopught it was a fail enless it was rotted!!

I kind of did this when doing my ball joint dust covers, i made the stupid mistake of using only the scissor jack (without axle stands) and as soon as i levered the arm down to locate the ball joint the jack colapsed lol

i wouldn't have thought it would be an mot failure unless its torn or split a weld.

And as for changing the sill it's not easy, remembering its both structural to the car and welded all the way along. I would imagine to have the sill replaced professionally it would be more than most 6n's are worth if you get what i mean.

Really your best bet would be to have the dent pulled out and tidy the area up.

buzz it back to bare metal, single side welder with a slide hammer, bit of filler to finish the shape off, stone chip and repaint, job done. thats what a bodyshop will do if you take it in, either that or cut off and weld a new sill section on, also unless its got a hole in it (or damaged your jacking point) then it shouldnt affect your mot
