I have just brought a set of black FK angel eyes, to fit to my 1.4s and I would also like to change to a hid xenon kit, what are the best kits to buy? Anyone else got there polo converted! I want them to be ice blue sort of coulour!

Any help would be appreciated thanks

How do I look at your kits have you got a website?

If they are projector headlights, the beam pattern etc will be fine. Its non projector headlights that will give off a scattered beam and generally look shite and blind other road users.

Also, MOT is getting very strict on HID lights on cars that weren't fitted with them from factory so might be worth considering if you don't want the hassle of changing them come MOT time.

Prettyuch any h7 kit will work with these

I had this setup on mine for awhile but wasn't happy with the out put and cutoff so I swapped the projectors for vixen on d2s projectors from an m5 couldn't be happier with the out. If your interested in doing this then let me know as I have a spare set sitting around.

6n2 GTi runs D2S bulbs as standard. Why did you get an M5 set-up??

M5 uses bixenon ( hi - lo ) projectors, and I have a pair of broken headlights from work, I used the hug ballasts and got d2 connectors and bulbs hey presto. I used OEM xenon because I my pinion they have a better output, but I am a bit of a perfectionist.

Ahhh right i get you now, make's sense if they were hi-low xenon.

Non-projector headlamps can look just as good with an aftermarket HID kit, it just all depends on the quality of the kit itself, how well it's been fitted and if the lights are adjusted/aligned properly. If all of these are correct, it makes a huge difference. We often stress this to our customers, it's always worth checking everything is 100% spot on.

A badly aligned/adjusted projector headlamp can be just as bad, if not worse, than an aftermarket HID kit in a non-projector headlamp.

In a non projector headlamp, the light just fills the whole unit and dosn't look good imo, you can barely see the rest of the car, just a pair of bright headlamps.

I've been in cars with HID's fitted in non projector headlamps, with them set-up, yet the light still seems to be all over the place. My mates Bora was the worst I've seen, could blind the owls in the tree's lol.

These are the ones I have brought? Are they the good ones or the shit ones?

better off with a set of nightbreakers or even halfords ultra brilliance in reflector lights, look smart with their bright white light and provide a shed load more light.

You appear to give out a lot of advice based around the topic of HID's, and with all due respect, non of it is of much use to anyone. Can I ask, what experience do you have with HID's, if any, or are you somebody who's either bought cheap kits off eBay, or knows someone who has, like your friend in the Bora, and are taring all HID kits etc with the same brush?

We tell people three things;

- buy a good quality kit. Not an expensive kit, a good quality kit. There's a difference.

- make sure they're correctly installed, the bulbs are sitting flush and the headlamps are in good working order.

- have your beam pattern checked/adjusted/aligned.

If you do that, and everything is spot on, A) the car looks great with them in and B) you shouldn't blind other road users.

If you buy cheap, bad quality kits that don't fit properly, or have to be adapted to fit, and have bad condition headlamps that have an horrific beam pattern, you're going to blind the owls, as you say.

That's where people go wrong, that's where the HID hate bandwagon comes from, and that's when the debates begin.

Everybody is entitled to their own opinion, you included fella; if you don't think non-projector headlamps look as good as projectors, that's your personal opinion and that's absolutely fine. However, telling somebody the negatives of HID's for the sake of telling them isn't really classed as advice.

ok, guys chill out, this isn't a I know more about HID's battle, Fundamentally on paper it is illegal to have HID's unless self levellers and washers are fitted, MOT testers will more than likely let it go, but eventually thing will get stricter. now its not illegal to sell HID's but like i said it is illegal to have them installed incorrectly its a two sided story and to me it seems like sean or nathan whoever you are seems to come online just to argue this fact.

THEY ARE ILLEGAL.

so is being drunk in public, you wont get arrested but it is still illegal.

so as a business you are telling people to disregard the law, this is potentially very dangerous to the business because when they eventually tighten up on it properly you will have a lot of refunds coming your way. might I suggest a disclaimer that they are for off road use only.

The OP asked about a xenon hid kit, we answered what he asked. Other members also replied with no relevance to the OP what so ever.

We're not here to argue, we're here to give advice about automotive lighting. 75% of the time our advice is given to people who have already purchased the items from elsewhere.

However when it comes to bad advice or incorrect advice I feel we should be correcting such posts, people who know about engine building wouldn't have someone else giving out bad or incorrect advice about building engines.
