6n2 GTi headlamp washers and rear window washer....

Featured Replies

As above, both of mines aren't working. Any common faults to look over or any ideas what could be wrong?? What controls the headlamp washers?? Does the pressure from the water push them out or are they run by motors??

The windscreen washers seem to work fine, but the above dosn't.

Advice please.

The headlightwashers use a separate water pump and it is the water pressure that makes them lift, it is controlled by a relay under the bonnet (ElsaWin on give the location as "front?") and will only activate if the headlights are ON and the front washers/wipers are activated.

The rear uses the same pump as the front washers so you should hear the pump run, if it does'nt the switch is at fault, but if OK your looking at a blocked jet or a split pipe, in my 6N the rear pipe had come apart at a production break behind the trim by the rear passenger upper seatbelt mounting point and the fluid was collecting in the spare wheel holder!
