Owner's name/forum name: Mikey aka MikeyMK

Approximate location: Milton Keynes

Current state: Sorn, impending reinstatement to daily use.

History: Complete but tired car bought mainly for it's solid non-sunroof bodyshell from a VW mechanic in Carlisle in '07. Donor of many parts was a terminally rotten but otherwise tidy 52k mile Tornado red Coupe-S in my hands since '03. Rebuilt by myself initially in 2007, developing to my preference over the following year or so. External-only respray in correct Komet Blau (blowover style but glass out and all exterior removed).

Modifications: Bike carb'd 1.6 16v hybrid engine compromising mainly of AVY MK3F GTi internals with static cams. Additionally a late wiring loom/ignition/interior and carried/upgraded suspension parts. Golf MK3 1.8 manual brakes F&R.

I don't have a pic of the plate so this may be a long shot, but i got the pic off here about three or four years ago. I do remember it was a B-reg and was a six-digit plate.

Anyone know if it still exists?

This car turned up on ebay a few weeks ago as a spares or repair. I contacted the owner and made him an offer and before I knew it she was on a trailer from Middlesex up to Rugby. I cannot reveal my plans just yet but rest assured you will be impressed. I originally planned to respray her however I never realised how rare comet blue was so decided to keep the original colour.

My car is a 1987 D reg and I was told that late mk2's were made in Spain with the tell tale signs of side repeaters and only 3 rocker cover bolts on the engine. Well mine has those however it clearly states that the car was made in West Germany. She's been off the road for over a year now however she fired up the other day but the rear box had rotted off so I have ordered a new one along with some service parts to get me by until I hit her with the modifying stick very hard.

updated mine.

whats the ride like?

whats the ride like?

Alot better than when it was sitting at about 90-100mm!! Haha.

Its stiff but the subframe adds to that.

When it was standard other than an 80/60 kit it was sweet

Yours is a bit of an oddball, rarest for sure.

The MK2 went through a massive change in 1986, almost every panel was changed, trim, everything technical from engines, suspension, steering, brakes.. Some cars right on the borderline hot a slight mix though. One thing that was dropped with the old model was Comet Blue paint option.

So yours is the newest comet blue car we know of in existence.

The Spanish cars came later, Spain started building them in 1989 I think. My '88 was 'made in W.Germany'.

D220VPH is my old Coupe S, I pulled it out of a driveway in Hillingdon in 2006 and got it back on the road, glad its still going!

hillingdon? no way! round the corner for me!

Yeah, was just off Long Lane, I used to live in Hayes.

I owned d220vph too. I bought it off mclovin back in september 14 now down south i belive, cornwall.

Never seen one of these in Cornwall, would love to spot it chugging around one day!

  • 1 month later...

Mine was in Cornwall a couple of times in '14, from visiting family in Okehampton - when we go to the sea we hang out at Widemouth Bay just south of Bude, i went to Bude and Boscastle in it.

It's been off the road this year but i hope to take it back down there before the cold weather kicks in. It's got an ally block 1.4 in it now, hoping the shorter stroke will be more forgiving on the near-4hr journey than the old 1.6 was.

I was told recently it's now been painted badly in some gay colour. No idea how true that is
