I'm thinking about swapping my renault clio for a honda civic but the guy with the civic has a private registration on the car.

we are not sure how to go about swapping and what to do with the reg plates... we basically want to get the sale over and done with as his insurance is about to run out and mine is ludicrously expensive and dont know best way to go about this?

Could he apply for the old reg to be put on the civic and the new reg to be put on mine?

any help much appreciates

He would have to apply for a new plate to put on his car and put his plate on retention. Once that has done you can then swap cars signing the V5. Once that has been done he then can request that his private plate that is on retention be put on your old car..

Make sure he does all this whilst he owns the car as there are fee's involved and before it is swapped because you will want the V5 to show the new plate.
