I have got FK AK Street coilovers and i want the front lower and i was wondering if i could take out my helper springs or would it be a problem ?

you can do it but the handling and ride will be absolutely horrendous, the first set of rear coilovers i bought for my saloon already had the helpers removed so i fitted them to see what it would be like and it turned a perfectly smooth road into the worst journey ever! basically i wouldn't recommend it if you like your spine! :)

Lots of people remove helpers for lows, they're about 25-30mm compressed so you get that much more adjustment.

People often don't realise you'll be sat on the bumpstops and have limited travel

as above, helpers are fully compressed when under load so have no affect on handling, that are merely there to keep your spring seated when car is raised / jacked up.

cutting down bumpstops is a must.

You drive a 9n? With the helpers removed does that still mean that it will be sitting on the bump stops?

If the coilovers are fully wound down but only lower up to 100mm I thought that was with the helper springs removed? If not 130mm lowered on a 9n might not be as bad as it would on a 6n/6n2!

Also I think I read somewhere about 'dead' coils in springs (basically the helper) they do make a difference to how the rest of the spring behaves, if I can find the info I will explain.

tbh if ure gonna be low, the rides shit anyway lets be honest, i took mine out and it gave me about an extra 20mm drop and the ride got a lot bouncier, not stiffer.. And it wasnt riding the bumstops.. BUT.. I know people that have taken them out and the rides got stiffer (might be riding bumpys) and i know people who have done it and the rides stayed the same :) i personally think it just depends on the brand of coilover, long story short, i removed them, i had no problems, Do it p.s, as said above, there only there to take away the slack in the coil spring when the car is off the floor for mot purposes :)

I think the damper may be in the way when I take the helper spring out. So should I will cut it down and take the helper spring out

Are you taking the suspension off to get the helper springs out? I don't think there is any make/model of coilovers that require you to CUT things to get them off, unless they're fucked!!!

Dont go cutting anything

You take the coilover off the car, dont do it any other way

Just took apart the top mounts in situ, and wound the adjusters right down and could just about get them out haha

Obviously. And toe. But at least it altered it a fraction, not fuck loads
