Anyone know what to look for when buying?Any common issues? from what i gather theres about 64 various combinations of spec and trim levels. I should have about 3k to play with, any help?Am i optimistic in finding a 3 door in this budget?

Clutches are one of the main things to look out for and just make sure the car has decent service history and has been well maintained. Other than that just check to make sure it hasnt seen the wrong side of a hedge. You can't go wrong with Jap motors

Just check for the usual jap problems, undersealed? rust ect. I've got a crush on a localish bug-eye wagon with over 350+bhp

Just dont ruin it with silly wheels/tyres if you get one

One of my mates bought a WRX about 6 months ago with 180,000 miles on it with full dealer stamped service history. It needed a new clutch and pads/discs all round and runs a dream. He picked it up for just over a grand... :)

No chance of finding a 3dr for that money tbh

Just get the cleanest one you can find

Check for any signs of oil leaks as they can be real expensive to fix!
