Thinking of doing this in the future to a few choice parts (not on the 'loon though ) mainly to avoid buying new due to plastic being damaged etc. Also, it gives a bit of a modern twist to a retro car.

So what do I want to use? Am i right in thinking that 3M do something. Any good? If not, what do people use/suggest? Also, any tips or good how to's? How easy is it to achieve results, and are the results long lasting? Don't want to wrap things and find its hanging off within the year

Vinyl looks gash, try doing it in real carbon its not too hard!

Some bits i've done.

carbon wrap doesnt look bad at all and its quiet easy to do.

all you need is a hair drier and a credit card or something similar to smooth out the air bubbles. as long as you take you time the results are good and lasting fairly well, the only thing is to get round corners you have to stretch the vynel and this can distort the pattern slightly.

I've done this to my spoiler, boot plinth and filler cap and has lasted for over a year now, it doesnt look bad at all apart from the filler cap which i rushed.

If your going to wrap mate use, 3m carbon di-noc i use this and its spot on hes some photos of it in my E46 Bmw

Definatley spend a couple of quid on a sqeegee over using an old credit card tried it once at work and don't advise it.. And if your doing big panels lay it down wet is the best tip I could say ( water/fairy liquid mixture )

I'll only be doing small areas, mirrors, door handles, interior parts. Just to smarten tired plastics up really.

Who makes real carbon fibre wrap? Is that the same as the 3m stuff?

I'm assuming he means make real carbon fibre parts. and it aint that hard to do either.

More room for error I'll find a link on google or take some photos at work, if your not too far from me we could always do it at my work if you buy the material I work at Tradesigns tring.

No worries mate, an definatley not I've handed in my notice at my current job as I've been offered a job doin composites such as carbon fibre so I'll soon find out, all I know at the moment is its a long progress ...

i used the textured 3m stuff on my petrol cap and my door handle inserts, looks pretty cool!

Is it 'shiny' Eric or more of a flat colour?

Just bought some 3m Di-Noc stuff from eBay.

Going to wrap a few interior bit I have left over from an old car and see how it goes.

Does the stuff need to be sealed at all to prevent moisture dissolving the glue?

I have no idea, the listing on fleabay just said apply it with a heat gun (hair dryer!!!) and the results are perfect.

I doubt that water would attack the adhesives as this is designed to be used on outer body parts (therefore in contact with road water and shit all the time!!!!!)

Sounds like the right stuff then. I'll maybe have to invest and have a play around with some old bits
