Carb's life just looks so much easier and neater :p Did you drill a hole in the firewall for the inline pump?

i only have 1 pump, tis a facet one. the little bolt you can just see to the left of where the choke cable goes through is where its attached, then found 2 holes for the fuel inlet and outlet which were in just the right places!

Actually thats weird, i'm guessing you've removed all the engine loom for the carbs? So that plug wouldn't have anything in it on yours either, do you know which one i'm talking about haha? Only plug on the back that far down

That's the knock sensor I can try and find the wires for it on mine and let you know mate, the carb setups won't use that sensor

As the flame front moves out from the spark plug ignition point, pressure waves in the chamber crash into the piston or cylinder walls resulting in a sound known as a knock or ping. This is caused by using a fuel with a low octane rating, overheating, or over advanced timing. Sometimes it can be caused by hot carbon deposits on the piston or cylinder head that raise compression. A knock sensor is comprised of Piezoelectric materials; Crystals that when impacted, generate a voltage (same idea as a BBQ ignitor). This voltage is monitored by the computer, and when an irregularity is detected, the computer corrects timing in VVT (variable valve timing) engines, or triggers a DTC Diagnostic Trouble Code) in older vehicles.'

So its probably ideal to find it and have it work, but not essential. I have what looks like household plug wiring going off one of my engine loom wires, guessing previous owner is responsible for this, but the wires are yellow and blue i think, and theres no plug for the engine plug. Just need to know what colour the wires should be as i have a spare plug off the fucked loom which came with my engine. Essay ftw

Took it out properly today and after about 5 minutes of driving coolant seems to be pissing out from somewhere and its creating steam flying out of the engine haha. Looks awful. Its near all of the thermostat housing but i can't pin point where, its quite dramatic though, i might get a video up see if anyone knows what is it

Yeah its the thermostat housing, its seems to have a leak as i can jiggle it around and it creates a gap, bastard hope it won't be awkward to fit a newen. I've also lost most of my interior controls, mainly indicators and blower, but main lights still work. Can the 6n fusebox interfere with the original wiring?

The thermostat housings are gash on them, they go brittle over time to the point where they either split or snap in half if you try and remove a hose. They are easy enough to replace, pull all the hoses off it then undo the 3 10mm headed bolts, there also a fairly large circlip holding the plastic pipe on the back which will break if you forget about it and try to pull the housing off tho. It's exactly the same as the clips that hold the water sensors in the thermostat housing but bigger so looking at them should give you an idea of how to tackle the one on the back

Yeah which bit do i need to replace? Cos theres a bolt on the bottom that not getting any tighter to imagine the housing thread has gone, meaning i'll need to replace the whole thing? Is there a good temp solution as i can't afford to get all that yet...

Did you find out what wires go to the knock sensor yet? Mine revs slightly by its self at idle i reckon i might be because of the knock not being there

I could think of more fun ways to spend the warmest weekend of the year tbh lol, the vauxhall in question was my chevette saloon

I'll get photos tonight and check out the knock wiring while I'm there. If its reving up and down at idle then check for vacuum leaks around the throttle body, any vacuum hoses if not in use need to be blocked off. If that doesn't help try resetting the idle by disconnecting the battery for half an hour then once starting leaving it to idle a little

yeah that was my next bet, check all air gaps I just wondered if the knock might affect things as well. I'm off to get some sealant for the thermostat housing today, gonna bodge some form of repair so i can least run it back home and sort it properly. Still no clue why my interior electrics have shanned off but i'm guessing it will be relay related or something as its a group of electricals not just one. Just a ball ache when everything was fine before!

Yeah i've had it off a fair few times and been doing it up quite tight but only by hand with an Allen key. Just tyring some sealant on that thermostat now

Quick note to any future converters: check your thermostat housing for leaks beforehand, it's a lot more awkward to change when it's in the bay... Yes I've just had to do it, working well now though :)

Sorry Guy just been reading through this again to see if i missed anything and i've no idea why i thought all those sump pics were on a breadvan, was in and out of the house though working on the car so probably had a lot to do with it.

Would you believe that after a week of driving everyday as soon as i get back to Huddersfield lower rad pipe has two 'punctures' meaning yet again i've got water pissing out :( Easy fix but just annoying.

Still got buzzer problems, i've earthed it, swapped the black switch over from the old block and tried both switches but nothing seems to want to stop the buzzing. Its become part of my soundtrack now, no fucking idea why it won't pick up that it's connected or even earthed. I'm guessing the actual connection might have gone somewhere. Anyone got any suggestions?
