Project "long term" GTi.....

Featured Replies

Reasoning behind the title is my last 4/5 cars, I've only had them for a few months at a time as I've gotten bored of them quickly. Now i have the GTi i plan to keep it for a wee while longer as i love it. So heres some progress pics so far.

When i got it.....105k, long tax and test with S/H upto 86k. Some old receipts and what not. Had to replace the N/S cv joint as it was proper fuked but that was a cheap fix. Considering the price i paid, and what the car is probably worth as a private sale, it was a proper bargain. Mods it had when i bought it are coilovers, pressed plates, polished strut top cover things, stubby ariel, and 16" RXII's (RS764's to be precise).

Pics of what it looked like....

Last weekend i stripped the wheels down and gave them a quick refurb. Centre's were done Vauxhall Mistral Grey. Bit darker than what i wanted but ok non the less. Also stripped the lacquer off the rims and gave the worst bits a quick run over with some 1200 wet and dry. They came up no bad....

Next on the list is i have 2 tyres to be fitted tomorrow as the fronts are well passed legal. Then i have a front wheel bearing to order and get fitted then get it in for a 4 wheel alignment as its out by quite a bit. Then i will be re-doing the calipers red, and also thinking about carbon wrapping the B pillars for a subtle touch.

Update soon once more progress is made. Also seen a set of RH Cups local that i might purchase for a wee change.

Update time.....

Was getting bored of the look of the car, and was actually in 2 minds wether to sell or not. But i love it too much to let it go so was time for a wee change. Easiest being the wheels. So was all set to sell the BBS (had a keen potential buyer but sadly had to let them down) and get something else. Picked up a set of G60 steels yesterday, was ready to go for tyres for them, then got a text offering a swap for the new wheels. Couldn't find any pics of said wheels on a GTi so would have been a hit or miss as to what they would look like. Got through, done the swap, and imo they look pretty good. Wee change and might not be to every1s taste

Enough gibberish and let the pics do the talking....

Rota Slips, 7J x 16, ET40 195 45 16 tyres. Had to give it a wee bit camber on the front to cure the scrubbage.

looks really nice dude ! i quite like the look of the new tyres imo they suite it ! how low is this ? just curious as I'm thinking of doing mine but not too sure yet !

Thanks.

Tbh i don't have a clue how low it is. I just adjust the coilovers to suit.

Maybe some1 else can confirm though by looking at the pics and give a rough estimate.

i rather like those wheels on that

nice little car
