Anyone ever had to replace a rear door lock on a 9n?

The rear off side door on my 9n will not open from either external or interior handles. When I pull the handle inside the car the little button rises then falls when you release the handle, there is a springy feeling from the handle. I've tried disconnecting the battery, trying the handle whilst banging around where the lock is on the outside of the car to no avail.

I've bought a new lock off ebay and just wondering how hard a job it's gonna be to replace the lock IF I can get the door open. Don't fancy my chances of getting the door trim off whilst the door is shut and will have to bite the bullet and take it in to a garage. Just that I hate having to spend my hard earned on garages unless I know for a fact that I couldn't do it myself.

Any advice would be gladly welcome

Removing

– Switch off ignition.

Vehicles with mechanical window regulators:

– Push spacer ring -2- in direction of arrow (releases securing clip) and pull window crank -1- from drive.

Continued for all vehicles:

– Insert hexagon socket head wrench -1- through removal openings -2- in back side of upper part of handle recess, press on locking hook -arrow A- and pull off upper part of handle recess in direction -arrows B-.

– Remove bolts -1- and -2- (4.5 Nm).

Caution

When the door trim is separated, there is a risk that fastening elements may be damaged. To avoid this, always follow the specified order and positions of clips when removing the door trim.

– Release door trim from mountings in -specified sequence- using wedge -T10039/1-.

NoteWhen door trim is separated, inclined surface of wedge -T10039/1- must face door panel.

– Pull door trim -1- upwards vertically out of window slot.

– Pull retaining tab -1- on inner side of door trim outwards.

– Pull Bowden cable towards back out of guide.

– Unhook Bowden cable -2- from inner door handle.

– Separate wiring harness for window regulator -1-.

Installing

– Installation is carried out in reverse order of removal.

NoteBefore installing, check fasteners for damage and renew if necessary.

Caution

Before installing door trim, ensure that the locking mechanisms of all clips are in -position 1-.

Proper installation of the door trim is not possible if clips are in -position 2-!

Installing window crank

– Push window crank onto drive in installation position and engage spacer ring.

Notet The installation position with window closed is a = 45° ± 12°.

t The -arrow- in the figure indicates direction of travel.

Is there a graphic to go along with this tutorial by any chance? I've just replaced a speaker cover on my 5dr 9n Polo and I'm having difficulty getting the door card popped back on.  Thanks!
