I've just got a JBL GT3-12" Sub from a lad at work and It needs a box. I've been reading up and people are saying I need a 50L capacity Ported box to produce the right sound. But I wont it mainly for Rnb/dnb/Rock/dubstep/hiphop I know that is alot of music types.

The box is for my 9n and i was thinking about it the length of the boot close to the seats, about 20" high? anybody have any suggestions? What do you fill it with as well?

I remember reading something about a calculator that designs the box for you given the space that you have.

Try googleing bass box calculator or similar.

Also there are companies that will make boxes up to your specs, a lot easier then making one, but might be pricey.

Thankyouu :) I will give that a try and I don't think I will go for that option of it been made for me as my dads a chippy and I need to save my money for my coilies and other speakers

Er, 1 - that's huge and 2 - I don't know what you've done with the parameters but the port length is negative.

Not much (I haven't decided on which sub out of 4 I'm going to use in an install, and I haven't started it yet anyway), but I suggest you search through here http://www.talkaudio.co.uk/ipb/index.php/f...-audio-general/ for the sub you have and general box building advice.

The 5 cu ft comes out of the AJ calculation program. Most of the replies I got and the information I gathered since, made me conclude that I need about 40 litres for a sealed box. I did some calculations a while back, but I think I've lost them. It depends what sort of music you listen to and what you want it to achieve too. I'm an SQ guy so a sealed box suits my preferences, if I was a bass head and going in for SPL then I'd probably go ported. Do have a look through Talk Audio, they are very helpful on there.

1 cu ft = 28.3 litres, so 40 litres is about 1.4 cu ft.

That'll be cool design if done right. However I would be putting a lot more audio in then that. Get 3 subs in there and load the front up with speakers rather than having 6x9's there which will sound shite

Id do a slot port design box, depending on your amp the less power use build a bigger box, I use the calculator downloaded off talkaudio very good

I've been told that 6x9's on a sub box will sound bad!!. So I'm budgeting for a whole new system, new door speakers with tweeters, more tweeters in the A pillars and some rear door lining speakers for good sound. Also having the sub like that will increase my boot space. Will be ported to provide the best sound, with PVC drain pipe. Will look good if I do it right. Not a quick job but will give me something to do. Also changing head unit.

Kit so far:

Thinking a more powerful amp with more control on settings. Not sure, but all this stuff was given to me off a lad at work so its a start. Going to see a head unit tomorrow for £80 normally £250 so lets she how it turns out!

Here's a colourful Wiring diagram I've just made. This is my knowledge of how to wire it all up. Correct? Or Incorrect?

HELP

red +ve from battery to amp

black -ve amp to clean earthpoint

blue remote headunit to amp

SHIELDED rca leads from headunit to amp

run the power cable down the passenger side of the car near the sill

clean of any paint back to bare metal to get cleanest earthpoint

avoid running the rca leads near the power cable so run the down the centre of the car

do not use the speaker terminal cups on you are sub box just drill a hole the size of your wire and run from the amp straight to the sub and then seal around the wire

for the jbl i would run 2.2cuft with a port of h12" x w2.5" x 14"d

try and smooth as much of the inside of the box to reduce standing waves...easiest way is get wooden moulding thats 45degrees and glue in with tigerseal and then fiberglass resin over the top and the whole inside of the box to get it super strong.... also flare the port to reduce port noise makes it sound sooo much better.... if u need any help pm me mate
