European road trip

Featured Replies

Me and some of my mates are wanting to do a road trip to nurburgring in the summer and i was just wondering if there is a minimum age to drive abroad. I am 19 and will have been driving 2 and a half year when we will go will this be ok.

We are planig to get a ferry to calais and then drive to germany via amsterdam haha. Are there any other rules that i would need to take into account for any of these countries that we would go through

The ferry is gerally cheaper is u go do Dover to Dunkirk with norfolkline ferries and if you have a look at a web page call sliders guest cottage it tells you how to get to the ring (as in The best way ) and when the track is open because it tends to be 5 to seven at night in the week there is no min age that I know of by there is stuff you have to take with u bulb kits high vis jacket stuff like that

As long as your insurance covers you for driving abroad age shouldn't be an issue.

As said above you need to take the right kit it should be reet!

I believe the minimum age is 18.

The foreign office website gives you all the information you want:

http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/

hi vis vests (one for each passenger)

warning triangle

headlight beam benders

wise to take a first aid kit

bar that anjoy it! I've done two now one in a mk1 golf cabby to croatia, and one in a mk2 polo g40 to romania, both trips did a total of 6.5k and travelled through about 25 countries! loved it!

check which countries your insurance will cover you for

some countries you need to buy vingettes

ok thanks for the help, i will have a look at the links and see what we need to get together

make sure that the high viz jackets are IN THE CABIN, if you have to get out of the car on the motorway for some reason and don't have one on when you leave the vehicle, the Gendarmarie will rape you anally

If going to amsterdam you can also get a ferry Hull-Rotterdam. I'm not a massive fan of Amsterdam tbh.

If you want a proper road trip head through Germany and Austria to Slovenia/Hungary/Croatia. It'll be much warmer there in summer, there are much nicer roads and scenery and you get much better value for money.

I've always found Amsterdam to be expensive, grimy and in summer, full of dodgy blokes trying to sell you drugs/mug you. Can't think of anything worse than taking my pride and joy of a car there!

Also remember your car insurance won't cover you for the 'ring, and if you crash into any barriers or owt you have to pay big.

Oh yer I did sorry mate, thank you though :)

you will want longer than there there. Especially after all the driving.

Last thing you want to do is hit the ring after many hours driving, extremely tired..... Accident waiting to happen.

Nevermind, i misread lmao!!

just take into consideration (i live in hameln, north germany)............

if you ae going to rag the shit out of your car round the track then does your insurance cover you for this? if not then its going to be a hassel getting cover or going round the track.

Also german police are anal so you need all your doc's with you and make sure you have a safety kit in your car otherwise you will get an on the spot fine, i speak from experience :)

good luck though, it is alot of fun to do.
