Hi guys looking at looking from some engineers an mechanics as I know you read this section. Basically my college course finishes August and I'm in a dilemma. Ie been offered two apprentaships at what I regard as 2 of what I think most known teams in f1. I got approached by a guy who was amazed by my knowledge and practicality of engineering he offered me a apprenticeship at virgin media racing, food paie for,travel expenses paid for accommodation paid for and even got a decent wage only problem it's In Banbury which means I travel there Monday and stay in a hotel until Friday And I was really happy with and decided thats where I want to be next year. Then today a guy from maclaren came to see me and said he had been following my progress by college and said that my college had gone to maclaren and told them about me, I now have had a interview for maclaren and they have said they want me to be in the apprentship, which is ideal as woking is 20 mins away and this is the ovious choice with them being maclaren but I'm sill finding it quite hard to choose as virgin sounds more exciting! Just thought that someone in hear will verity my mind

First off congratulations

As exiting as the virgin job sounds could you really be away from everyone one every working week? I think that's what would get me. It'd probably be fine for a bit but I can imagine that sitting in a hotel room four nights a week miles away from family and friend would get pretty boring after a while

Chees mate, yeah that's the thing only so much you can do a hotel room

Although i cant comment on which job would be better, I can tell you that living alone for a year will teach you a lot and give you a good experience. I'm currently doing an internship at Kraft in Banbury inbetween my uni, I rent accommodation out and then go back to Leicester most weekends. At work you will find people to hang out with and if you join the gym/a sports club or something you will make more mates. What I'm trying to say is dont let living away from home put you off! If its a once in a lifetime sort of thing then do it. Also even if the hotel room was £30 a night, thats £480 a month, you can rent out a decent flat for that, so I would do that! I haven't been to any meets or anything but I've seen quiet a few mod'ed cars around here.

I'd try doing some research about the actual jobs themselves and such things as how to company treats employees, wages and such, after all if you want to make a career out of it you don't want to feel like a number in a huge company.

Moving away may not be bad as said, plus times when you do go home would be more exciting as you'd realise the value of relationships with people more.

Few people Iv met have moved to work where I do and thru soon settle in, make new friends/boy/girlfriends and such

tbh i would ignore the location completely, it's not unusual for F1 teams to relocate anyway. Which firm is going to offer the best deal, not just short term, but long term too. If possible try and speak with some of the actual workers to get an idea of what they think about their workplace! If theres still nothing between the two, go with your gut!

First of all congratulations you ever so lucky bugger that would be the best thing ever for me to do. But from a personal note having to work away all week every week all over the uk going home on a friday night is such a good feeling and u get to learn who your real friends are. But as said above look into both jobs more and try to find out more about them and what the working environment is like. Then make you are decision.
