I love my mk3 polo coupe, it's so reliable for an '82 model with 110k on the clock but i think it might be time for a change. Small things are beginning to go wrong. I've noticed recently that when i switch on the front wiper, both wipers go across the windscreen really slowly the first or second time, then after that their fine.

Two days ago, the wipers only made it half way across the windscreen before stopping altogether, i kept trying on the way home to keep switching them on and they moved ever so slightly but now they won't work at all, in this weather i need my wipers.

It's probably the motor that's gone, do you think the best place to go would be the scrapyard.

You could well need a new motor, but before you spend your money, it might well pay to : 1) Check the voltage at the wiper motor terminals with the wipers switched 'on'; Check that the fuse is making good contact; Check that the problem is not down to seized or partially seized mechanical linkage.

So, i've checked all the fuses and they seem fine, no broken or burnt ones, had the next door mechanic have a look and he said there was no power going to the wiper motor. On the way home tonight, popped into a garage, the mechanic was testing to see if the wipers moved so it's not the mechanical linkage, he did say the wiper motor was very not. Seemed to think it was a short and not earthed properly and had probably seized up.

So i either try and find one in a scrap yard or search online, does anyone know of any good VW polo parts websites, i did get a quote from a VW garage which was £145 for the motor and £30 for fitting, so i need to try and find a cheaper option.

Try euro car parts (ecp) or German, Swedish and French (GSF). Give them a call rather then checking online as it's usually cheaper that way.

Failing that check on eBay or in your local scrapyard.
