So on my previous car i got pulled over for having bald tires (my fault i know), i changed the wheels at the side of the road where i got pulled over with the police present so i could drive away, since then iv bought a new car, i have just received a summons to court for 4 or 6 offences (Will confirm) :(, They took picture's of everything so I'm going guilty no point in trying to lie, If i go guilty before the summons am i right in thinking this will hopefully lessen what ever they give me? anyone had this before and what charge did you get?

Iv been driving just over a year, if i lose my licence prob gunna lose my job as well not looking good at all :/

So what do you guys think will be the least/worst charge i will get iv never been in court or arrested etc don't have a clue about this sort of stuff :(

As I've been on both sides of the box (so to speak) in regard to a motoring offence I can offer some help....

If you get a nice magistrate or judge then a guilty plea might help but it does depend on the full list of offences. TBH you've already admitted fault in your post so I'm not going to go in and be a keyboard warrior (anyone else who does shall expect not to be able to log in for a while).

A defective tyre used to be 1 offence per wheel and 3 points so that will go against you from the offset, especially as you state there are 4/6 offences and the max points is 6 in 2 years.

When you plead you can claim you need your car to get to and from work but this can also back fire in the fact that you failed to do preventive maintenance on a vehicle you relied on for that purpose.

I feel like the barer of bad news here (unless you get a sympathetic court who appreciate a young person knowing hes done wrong and answered for it) but the worst is a fine and full loss of licence, the better outcome is a huge fine possibly with a short term ban (month or so).

The other side is the long term effect that both of these outcomes will possibly make you uninsurable forcing you off the road any way.

Sorry i cant be any more upbeat about it but good luck when it finally comes to court, you might get lucky.

Totally depends on the offences as mentioned above, not all motoring offences carry fixed penalty points like the tyres do, so if it was 1 bald tyre and 4-5 lesser charges you might not be looking a a license revoke anyway. If you let us know exactly what your being charged with then we may be able to give you better idea of where you stand

No point going guilty as like you say the police already have photos proving tour guilt, to try and blatantly lie to the court is just going to make you look like a tosser to them, just throw yourself at their feet and beg for mercy and hope the judge got some the night before

If it were me and I had the option, I'd plead guilty by post and use it as an opportunity to write to the magistrate and tell them how you realise you've done wrong, how you're not going to do it again. Any good stuff you've done in the past and what the consequences would be of a harsh punishment (loss of job, financial hardship, etc).

He said he's been driving over a year, won't he come under the "new driver" rules where 6 points within 2 years of passing the test would apply.

As for the "totting up" or not as the offences are the same type and the same event, I can't find an answer at present. One reference seems to indicate it is at the discretion of the magistrate(s).

I think the best thing may be to speak to a local solicitor who deals with motoring defence, especially if you can find one that offers a "first interview free" or similar deal. Partly because they should know the law and partly because they should know how the local magistrates usually deal with such cases. I would also want to know whether it would be worthwhile appearing in court to explain yourself and answer any questions. If you are convicted, I would hope for your sake that at the worst it will be 3 points (because it was all the "same" offence) and a fine.

When it comes to the legibility of not checking your tyres regularly amongst other general checks I'm somewhat confused. I'm guessing the majority people on here are enthusiasts about their cars, therefore maintain there pride and joy to the last detail. So when you buy a car off someone, for me, I would check everything is legal (or mostly legal at least.)

But in your case, plending guilty could be risking as as mentioned above they have photographic evidence and therefore, sadly just got to bite the bullet and hope everything smooths out

feel i should contribute, from what people have said and what I've skim read online it seems like a case of keep your fingers crossed that you get a good magistrate who can see your sorry (force out a tear) and really do just hope for the best

was it a very modified car? how long did you own it for? i had a similar instance but had just bought it with nearly a full ticket so in my defence i wouldnt expect two tyres that were nearly bald to go through an mot so i would expect them to have decent tread for longer than a month.

They would just laugh at you with that excuse. For starters who's to say the tyres are even the same ones that were on the car when it was mot'ed? And secondly its your responsibly to make sure the car you are driving is in a road worthy condition. If you have just bought a car then you should of checked that it was road worthy before driving it.

According to the law You should really check the car over before you drive it.

I very much doubt anyone actually does this but things like check tyres, wheel wobble, oil, coolant, lights and mirrors

Court date was on the 14th but i did it all in the post so didn't have to go there, awaiting the letter to come through the door surprised it isn't here all ready to be honest

What's it looking like the outcome is?

Just found out the outcome of this today as it had been ajourned from the 14th of march till yesterday i have got £800 fine and 3 points on my licence so iv come out lightley i think, a warning to you all check your tyres :(

I could of got 12 points and a fine as they treated it as 4 seperate offences and you can get 3 points per tyre i am lucky really, the officer who pulled me over told me i was probly gunna loose my licence so I'm happy iv still got it :)
