As title suggests really, it's a really noob question, i know, but - the round plug that's attached to the A-pillar, how does it unplug or unscrew?

Also - can you still get the door wiring loom from VW?

For 6N2 (2000-2002) its twist the outer ring anticlockwise and the plug then pulls out. Not sure for other years.

Why do you need a new harness, do you have broken wires?

This is for a '96 6N - not a 6N2.

Pretty sure it's buggered - when you open the door, the central locking pump unlocks...then unlocks a few times while the door is moving through its arc. The mirror works fine, but the drivers window worked ONCE down halfway (then back up) but hasn't worked since. And it's not the switch.

The plug is the same as used on the 6n2 ie it unscrews, the looms are listed on Vagcat @ 41.55€uro's

They unscrew, but don't force them as they are relatively fragile.

I broke mine on my new 6n2 and it has been a real headache to repair turns out someone had glued them in so I had to smash them to pieces to get them off.

These are a VERY common problem on polos and tbh you don't need to buy a new one and buying a second hand one will most probably mean it has the same problems.

What I usually do is remove the door card and carefully remove the neoprene backing completely and then disconnect the harness and then undo the connector at the a pillar then remove the whole thing and take it to my work bench. This means I can check everything properly and repair what ever is broken properly as well.

The usual culprit is the large brown wire as this I think is the earth for all the electrics in the door an is usually broken that said I have seen at least 2 wires broken each time I've done this. Just cut the broken piece and then solder in a new section of wire at least as thick if not thicker then the broken one. If you can then try to use shrink wrap tubing and make a good job of it.

Also what I do is once its all repaired i cover all twireless inside the rubber boot with general purpose grease. This reduces the friction caused between the wires when the door is used and keeps moisture away.
