Fitting/parts For rear LED indicators:

Featured Replies

Hey peeps,

I've been looking into rear red-ing my taillights but as stated on the Lamin-x website if I apply the film the indicators dont emit the right orange :?

I know alot of people just risk them but i thought it would be cool to mod it any way. So apparrently you need a an oragne LED and a resistor (i think to ge the right timing?). Also i saw on Uk MKIVS someone had done glued an led strip to the cover then soldered onto the bulb holder.

So one what exactly do i need to do this and sizes (of resistor etc.)?

And where can i get them from?

Cheers in advanced guys,

Wooly

I've had the Non-canbus ones and they didn't make any difference. I bought mine from a reputable online supplier and the bulbs themselves were decent quality, but the error correction just didn't work (on my golf anyway)

Edit - I mean the non-canbus error bulbs...

@duey

what company di you use?

Hids4u.co.uk

Also, reading the uk mk4's thread, it appears that he's got double indicators up front so by removing the bulb at the back, the circuit as a whole still had enough resistance, meaning that he experiences no fast flash

All you need to do is replace the standard flasher relay for an led flasher relay , easily found on eBay !

as far as i know, in the Mk4 golf and the 6n2's, the indicator relay is part of the Hazard switch, so how would you replace it...?

Been in contact with Lamin-x and the do actually sell the LED bulbs with resistors - just not accessed by their page but they emailed me the link so ill post it up in a mo.

Apprently its easy to fit and theyve had no complaints on lack of colour or errors :)

Cheers for the info though guys

The problem with the led ones is that they are really dim compared to the bulbs. You would have to make up a board with at least three 3 watt high power LEDs and use a suitable driver in order to really see them in the day time I made complete led tails for my vectra this way and they look amazing.

But if your after just an amber light then I'm sure i read somewhere that if you use a green bulb it shines amber through red lenses? Maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

Also you wouldn't need any thing that has can bus written on it as they only mean it doesn't show up on the check control and I don't think polos have that. What you would need is a 21w load resistor. Search on eBay there a couple of quid each

Pretty sure the green does shine amber through red lights, hence green bulbs being available in many motorfactors!
