so i bought a polo 6n with a fueling problem they thought it was the pump but after i looked at it I've found out that theres no positive getting to the pump so I'm wondering if there's a fuel cut off switch somewhere. I've tried wiring a positive wire straight from fag lighter and she fired straight up so its definately a positive that its lacking. I've checked relays and fuses and there all fine. can anyone help me ??

The fuel pump relay is energised by the ECU only when the ECU has a GO signal from the immobiliser, so it looks like you could have an immobiliser problem! You need to get it connected up to VagCom to see if there are any fault codes stored.

Edit:- Forgot to say there is no inertia cut out on the 6n on later models (1999 onwards) there is and it's done via the Airbag ECU

If it was an immobiliser problem the pump would still prime when you first turn the ignition so all the dash lights come on and the car will still start but only for a few seconds. If you are getting no fuel at all then I'd be more inclined to think it was a relay issues as its not unheard of for these to work loose on the 6n's

hi cheers for info. i can turn the ignition on and no noise comes from the pump so it wont fire... I've checked relays and there all fine. so only thing i can think of is the wires cut somewhere i dont know what else to check. I've wired a wire from positive on the pump to the cigarette lighter and it fires up first turn of the key. so confused!!

the fuel pump relay is known to fail, vw has even produced a up-rated version.

have you checked the relay 167 (fuel pump) for continuity as they can click but not allow current to flow.

ill take another look at the fueses and relays asap and see if i can find anything out thanks alot
