well pretty pleased as today my new turbo turned up and it cost me all of £1.20 from ebay as no one was interested in it and postage was £9.50. Needs a rebuild but standard rebuild kits are 30 quid or can get an uprated one for 75 quid. its a KP35 turbo that will go upto 1.5 bar of boost. originally bought it for my clio as thats what its for but just rebuilt the one thats on and so have this one to put on the polo now once its refurbed.

Sounds like a nice deal, what clio have you got Pete? Is there much to rebuilding them? I got a t3 with shot bearings laying around that I always planned to rebuild but never got round to it, probably will tho eventually for the next td conversion I get

Rebuilding it was a piece of cake mate took all of half hour but while it was apart I decoked it and had to clean all the oil out the inlet compressors side as an oil seal had gone so took me around an hour but so simple and it's enough boost for the afh tbh that I'm gunna run for the mo. Just gotta make an exhaust mani and downpipe for its weird flanges.

And I've got a 54 plate 1.5 dci clio extreme lol as my daily now and the polo is in the garage and going to get the 4wd conversion started next week as I have the box, diff and rear driveshafts.

Fuck knows, the numbers on the gauge stopped at 30psi although it went a bit further before running out of gauge but even then the boost continued. It had the actuator blocked off so it just boosted until it ran out of fuel, although the pump was played with to make sure it didn't

Obviously it was only a td so not at all comparable to a petrol turbo running massive boost, but still the sound of a turbo spoiling up to some thing like 40+psi about two foot infront of you sounds impressive non the less

Yeah as polominge says the pumps on td's use springs and mechanisms to control fueling. There are mods that you can do like fitting bigger plungers and modifying the fuel governing mechanism, but a lot of it is just done by adjusting screws on the Bosch diesel pumps used on early vw boosted smokers.

That's why they are so cheap to tune, most of it is just adjusting what's already there rather than uprating shit, you basically remap it with a screw driver

As for power i have no idea cause I fried the clutch on it the night before the rr day. At its peak tho it did go really well for an old smoker and unlike most diesels pulled right up to near the hard limiter rather than dropping off at like 3k

Bargain, wish I could get me a K03s or KO3 hybrid for that money haha. Shouldn't have bought myself a quickish car, had it 3 weeks and 195bhp is nowhere near enough now haha. FMIC, KO3s, silicone TIP, exhaust should see a nice 230bhp.
