so ime onto my 2nd paid engine swap :)

got the engine well before xmas but for a few reasons i couldnt really get around to starting it until recently

so the engine is a 1.8 8v g60 from a j reg corrado

going into a show worthy mk1 golf clipper cab

so far i have stripped the engine of its ancillaries, removed the head then stripped it, had it skimmed and rebuilt it with new valve stem seals and cam seal

removed the sump and gave the bottom of the engine a thorough clean as it has been sat unused for around 3 years (although it ran perfectly fine before being sat)

i have smartened up the block with a coat of hammered black hammerite which looks much better than the previous look of flakey rust and dirty blue paint :)

when the block is dry i can then refit the head with new timing belt/tensioner and headgasket

the lad who owns the car has also ordered a stage 4 charger, 68mm pulley, uprated fuel rail and bigger injectors, also a golf ralley intercooler and stronger boost pipes, good for 250hp i have been told

we have also opted to stick with the o2a box which means different engine mounts (all available from www.justcaddys.com) and also means the car needs converting to cable change (fun...) and also a cable clutch conversion (not to hard really)

It's off the road atm cause he ran it into the ground, shame cause it was a stunning car when he first got it off another mate

before he got his hands on it...

(it is the same kinda deep red as yours but I think its the lighting making it look Orange in those photos)

Was looking at this sort of project before i bought my '86 mk2 gti. Be really interested to see how you go about it mate! Also would you be able to log the parts you source/ buy from vw for the cable change on the hydraulic 02a box? :) Are you going with the seat ibiza cable pedal etc?

the gearbox mounts from justcaddys come with all the part numbers to change from hydro to cable

So i went to vw and ordered a replacement crank pulley and stronger bolt/washer from a 1.8gti as the woodruff key is know to snap and also the heads as known to shear off the g60 crank bolt (bye bye engine) so for £30 its good piece of mind!

The golf arrived a couple of nights ago, heres a couple of sneaky shots in my garden

been neglecting this a bit recently as other things have been occupying my time so i got some more done today :)

timing belt refitted after spraying head, pulleys and rocker cover

lightened flywheel fitted (vr6 clutch will go on once off the spinner as there is no room)

new exhaust studs fitted and manifold tryed for size

inlet manifold and charger brackets sprayed and hung to dry

also gave the engine bay a spray with TFR and then a blast with the jetwash

i hope the owner will appreciate all this :) coz i think the engine looks the nuts!

Well i did some more playing with the engine yesterday, and now it looks like this

finnnalllyyyyyy got the engine mounts ordered tonight! i will be dumping the engine in there as soon as poss!

Always fancied a g60 cabby after having a karmann years ago, looks like your doing a nice job!

lovely little example of a mk1 clipper. would love to have a g60 powered one
