6n coilovers, Mk1 golf coilovers and the Mk3 Mk2f polo

Featured Replies

This afternoon

I have been doing a bit of digging into coilovers.

Using a mk2f as a base

6n rear coilies will fit.

Mk1 Golf coilies will fit.

Are they both the same lengths?

I've read from a Source (who doesn't like being pm'd so will remain nameless) that mk1 coilies are ridiculously low and only go lower on the rear of the Mk2f.

So taking into account that mk2 golf rears arelonger are they so much longer that you cant get any resonable adjustability?

It seems so. but i don't have any first hand experience.

The fronts

Mk1 golf conversion can be done successfully , so fronts fit

6n front coilovers.

Are they any differante to Mk1 golf? i have read of people using 6n front coilovers in mk1 caddys. so are they much different from mk1 coilovers?

Do the adjustment holes at the base of the coilover need 'adapting' to the mk1 hubs?

can anyone provide 6n coiolovers and mk1 coilovers for comparason?

6n2 Coilovers are the same at the rear and different at the front with different springs and top mounts.

pretty sure the rears are all the same!

and the fronts may need adapting to fit, but it would be better to cut the mounting collar off some mk1 struts and put em on the 6n ones if that what you've got!

Yes you legend!

What has been said about rears is what I've found from a few hours digging, also to fit 6n coilovers or mk1 coilovers on the rear some kind of spacer is need as the mounting on the axle is larger.

Cutting up mk1 strut to mount on 6n coilover could be more work.

Just wondering if the 6n and mk1 golf fronts are the same as it has been said that 6n front coilovers have been fitted to a mk1 caddy. Maybe with different top mounts.

Cutting up mk1 struts to apart to 6n struts would achieve nothing. You have to chop mk3 struts to get the steering arm which welds onto the mk1 golf coilover, this however should only be done by someone who knows what they're doing as could be potentially dangerous of performed by any average joe have a play about in his garage.

If you know this can be done, why are you asking about 6n coilovers, just go for golf ones, I'm sure there's not much difference in price?

we arent talking about steering arms. but valid point. which is (one of the reasons) why the faq was removed.

we are talking about the mounting collar on the bottom of strut/coilover. cutting a mk1 mounting and welding to 6n one, not i deal but possible. not a route i plan on exploring.

just looking for some solid information on mk1 golf and 6n front coilvers.

6n rear coils are a direct fit, and the fronts can fit, as long as you are using the mk2 front hubs etc
