I have have recently bought a 2002 polo 9n with engine damage.... Sounds like the timing chain has stretched as the engine will start but will fight itself to stay alive ! The engine is vibrating alot also, i thought it was bottom end damage at first but i dont have a clue about these engines as I am more of a mg rover guy.

Been researching around the forums but havnt been able to find that much info on engine conversions for the polo 9n.

The 1.2 3 cylinder 12v dosnt have enough poke for me to be honust, maybe a 1.6 gti engine or a 1.8 from a golf would suite me alot better.

I have read you can easily fit a 1.8t but I'm not looking to go that far just yet.

If anyone could help me with information that would be great !

Put the 1.8t in it and get the wiring loom from the 2005-2009 polo gti, easy job and there is no point wasting time and money putting 1.4 or 1.6 or something to then decide you want the 1.8t and by far the 1.8t is the easiest to fit

Yeah the 1.8t from the 9n3 GTI should be easy enough! try and find one thats been rear ended or something and swap all parts over, hey, youll even get bigger brakes and such then too

Just keeping an eye out for a donor car at the moment.

With the wiring loom from the polo gti would I need to complete loom or could I just adapt the original polo loom with the loom donor car?

Yeah you could but it's easier to just buy the 1.8t loom, if you're good with electrics then I'd give it a go adapting it

wanted to do his to my 9n, done a fair bit of research and the 9n3 gti engine fits straight onto the mounts without modifying anything and my mate who is a genius with looms said hes 90 percent sure it will be a plug and play situation
