Just thought I would start a quick build thread of things that I have done to the polo so far, and to also get some views on the look!

This is how the car was when I bought it, Got rid of those white vinyls or the rear windows (in my personal opinion they look like three willy came and spunked on the window)

So first things first, Lets get her lower on those coillies...

Then I had a slight issue with the wheel coming loose, DONT ASK! so that mangles my 5x100 20mm adapters... so a new set was put on order.

Now thats sorted and were back on the road, A new wheel (will get pics up soon), but yes, the airbag was a right whore to get off!

Currently waiting on getting these powdercoated in orange, with polished lip ready for summer!

These were pissing me off, so as i bought some new brighter bulbs, I wanted to have a try at improving the lens a little.

Still not happy with these but may get angel eyes anyways!!

Trying to get it on the ramps to do the tracking was fun:

Anyways, thats the polo so far (his name is Nemo), what do you guys think? any suggestions??

Decided to take out the A,B and C pillars and spray them Matt Black, Here are the photo's!

Primered and ready to go (only took this picture of any primer coats...

With the seatbelt surrounding trim, I decided to take the middle bits out and spray them a mettalic blue coulour against the matt black...

I've done my 6n2 and it went so well they looked like brand new headlights and I ended up doing my parents cars aswell! haha.

I didn't bother with a correction kit though, I used 600 - 1000 - 1500 - 2000 - 3000 stages of wet and dry followed by a good polish with ScratchX.

Went to my local motorfactors today and got some 2000 wet and dry, must say I deffo need to go higher grade but they didnt have any! I will get some 3000 and hopefully my lenses will be clear.

the 2000 worked ok with some scratch polish after but still not clear! hopefully 3000 will work!

I've done it on 3 cars so far and found that the 600 grit did most of the work and got rid of almost all of the yellowing and staining and the soapy water was literally turning yellow/brown at this stage. The 1000, 1500, 2000 smoothed them quite well but the 3000 followed by the ScratchX really impressed me and when polishing them with a foam pad they were literally squeaky clean and like new lenses.

dno if you've already had time to sort the headlights now but I did make a guide a while back and just found it in one of my old threads.

Getting a perfect finish can be time consuming, but is easy enough todo and requires patience!. will take about an hour and a half per headlight, but I'm abit of a perfectionist..

this is how you do it:

you will need:

- a couple microfibre cloths

- a flannel or towel like cloth

- quality sandpaper, I used 3 grits, 1000, 1200 and 3000.

- a bucket of cold water

- Meguiars PlastX

- a spray bottle of water

- masking tape

- patience

my headlights were severely clouded/oxidised. I used 3 strengths of sandpaper purchased from a local auto shop. 1000 grit, 1200 grit and 3000 grit. Ideally you would want something to bridge the gap between 1200 and 3000, perhaps a 2000, but this is all they had and it worked fine and cost only a couple quid for several sheets.

Start by cutting the sandpaper to workable squares and soak each piece in a bucket of water for 10 minutes before use. Mask around the headlight, as you don't want sanded paintwork!

Start with the 1000 grit and work in a horizontal movement, only work in one direction, with any one grit of sandpaper. As you do this spray the surface regularly with a bottle of water (I just washed out an empty cleaning bottle and filled it with water). Be quite firm with it and patient, it will end up looking something like this:

At this point you will be thinking something along the lines of .... "shiiit i hope this turns out ok!!"

Dry the surface of the headlight and make sure you have a reasonably even finish, if not correct it before you proceed.

Now move onto the 1200 grit working in a vertical direction, opposite to what you did with the 1000. Continue to spray the surface regularly. Take pride in doing a decent job of it, don't rush and get a nice even finish. spend about 15 minutes on each grit level, if you are unsure what the finish is like dry the surface and check. Mine looked like this:

Ok so 3000 grit now. Finishing in a horizontal direction. Same applies as before, just take your time and get a decent finish. Once you have finished with the 3000, dry it off with a microfibre cloth. I don't have a picture of this stage, but after using 3000 it will be noticeably clearer, although fine scratches will be visible.

Time for the polishing stage. Apply a decent amount of Meguiars PlastX to a flannel like material. I tried a regular polishing pad and a microfibre cloth, but really it needs to be a material that's a little more abrasive, so a flannel or rough towel will do best. Use quite a lot of pressure and really work it in in a circular motion, applying more plastx when necessary. I probably spent about 20 minutes per headlight polishing by hand before it reached a finish I was happy with, but you could even spend longer. You could use a machine, but Its probably not really required, I did not. Some say that leaving plastx on to dry for 15-20 minutes and then buffering off improves the finish, but I didn't bother.

After polishing:

(the white around the bottom, is just masking tape residue)

It's difficult to show just how good these came out, but they are really like new even if you look up close. Before they were yellowed, oxidised and cloudy :). I think it would be good to seal them with some type of uv protector after finishing, but I have not done so yet.

So that's it really. 2 hours or so and a pair of like-new headlights, for under 20 quid. And I promise these were as bad as yours to start with.

Update***

Just got hold of a GTI splitter and a nice new grill, bit of an inpulse buy on the grill to be honest, what are your thoughts??

The pepperpots are back from the powder coaters (city powder coating, Birmingham, dont use them! will write a review eventually)

They look ok after a long wait to get my hands back on them...

Got my brother polishing the lip for me with meguiars metal polish (any other reccomendations welcome)

And, IMO they really are a loud colour, I got pepperpots free with the car and wanted to get them done in a 'in you face' colour while I save for some nice wheels...

Thanks a lot man... I like it when people don't bully my wheels haha! They are slightly stretched, the only problem is that the PP's are on like 6j? Therefore mega stretch would make the tyre contact tiny! Will be selling up eventually to get some rota zeros I'm thinking. :))
