Kierans Polo 6n2 1400. Coilies, Banded steelies, camber..

Featured Replies

Hello there, new to the site, I bought a Polo about 3 months ago. Its my 7th car in 2 years and I dont mess about when it comes to modifications!

Straight off i got the car and restored the paintwork with some heavy duty polishing and waxing:

So it went from this:

So i used lots of polish, a decent machine polisher, and a tub of wax..

To make this

This is the first week.

Naturally straight after this I sought out a set of alloys.

New to 6n2s I went 13" buying some weller staggered dishes, bad choice i found out later as they are far too small for the arches unless i like broken sumps:

Racing slicks on, obviously didnt drive on them (on the road ;)) but got to the point that i had to sell them on.

Second set!

I became a bit of a wheel whore, found some AMG replicas on ebay, great deal, old geezer that never knew what he was selling. Tbh only bought to profit but i gave them a go and at 17" with 55 ratios they were too large for the arches. (not to forget the 5.114 pcd)

Good fun, too small and too big. so now you're wondering what next?

Week three, Stance.

So i decided after almost selling the car, that i would keep it and have a little bit more of a play,

NATURALLY, coilies had to be fitted, bare essential.

Pictures sat on the 13" slick wellers..

So now i was on the floor, i needed to get outwards, so i sourced out a set of beautiful 14" banded steelies.

8j rear 7j front, killer stretch at 185 55 14.

Genuine VW wheels and center caps, perfect size and fitment. Gazm!

Resprayed my wheels using chrome spray paint, i knew it would be optimistic thinking it would actually come out chrome-ish, but it wasnt too bad to be honest!

Got some new pictures the other day, came out better than all of them so far. Also the car starred in a little movie we made on the two cars that attended the shoot.

Got some camber shims for this the other day, Dont ever waste your money on them. They are cheap horrible plastic pieces of ****.

I've decided to put a couple of washers on the bottom two bolts to kick out the wheels for about 2-3 degree camber, a bit more tuck

liked this on edition38, wheels look good with that chrome paint even though they look more polished than chrome haha gives me ideas for my bandeds hmmm

Yeah, I wanted the polished look!

Theyve turned to silver now though, but never mind. I'm thinking i may do the centers the same blue as the car...

Banded steels are the way foreward man! I got done for my poke by the police. but and I'm currently getting arches fitted to make them legal;)

Well, I dont like when the actual inner lip is stretched back.. 185 imo is the max for a 8j

sits so well sexy :-p

They're not crap instead there great!!, I've had them on for 6 months and no problems what so ever! Also adjust the rear toe which means tyres wear down slower!!

Nice looking car!, Get some rear camber on and lower it more :)

How do they adjust tow? Which way? and how does that reduce wear?

I've sorted camber now, i just shimmed the hubs out at the bottom using washers through the axle/hub bolts. Worked well, its about 2..3? degrees quite subtle, but when you look down the side you can really tell. Thats sorted the excess poke so they are now legal! and i can get it down a good 20mm more.. GET IN.

I've removed a bit of the camber because i lost about 1.5mm tread in 3 weeks!

Poke is perfect, sits just right now.

Sub and amp in the back now, coilovers to the limits, ready for the car show season!!

Anyone going to Edition38 on here?

This looks almost bang on identical to my mates 6N2 at the minute, 'cept his is the lighter blue and on 9's. You have good taste, haha. See you at edition!

Thanks for all the comments, I've removed 1 degree camber due to tyre wear but still looks stanced

  • 11 months later...

This gives me some hope that the banded steels I've just bought might not be too wide, without a tyre on it's hard to get a good idea of exactly how they'll look.

I liked the chrome paint idea, I once used some on a couple of engine parts on my mk2 Golf. Shame your's dulled eventually. The pic with your car in twice is really cool.

Can you take some sideways on shots? Nearly everyone posted is from and angle, would like to see the stance

  • 11 months later...

That chrome paint looks very impressive! How's the price? Also anyone have a link for those center caps? I'm guessing they'd fit a mk4..
