Hi guys, after a bit of advice really.

Went out on wednesday night and parked my car over my friends house. Pre-drinks over his before town. Anyway, got a knock on the door in the morning to say that the car was subject to a theft and has been recovered as it was in a dangerous position.

Not 100% sure on the damage to the car atm as i haven't had a chance to go and see it. What the recovery team have told me is that the door has been bent back, ignition barrel is smashed and the cowling is all damaged along with wiring hanging down.

Now the car itself is in pretty good condition and apparently its a rare spec. Its a 1.3 CL (nz engine code) Genuine 75K miles with full history. With the place that they are taking it to after it is released from scene of crime i know are pretty expensive for body work. I recently got quoted £350 to have the car fully resprayed at a local body shop we use for work (trade work and me doing a lot of work myself)

I'm pretty sure that with the damage to the door and the cost of everything else too they will simply write it off. This is something i dont want to happen. I've never had an accident, or claimed on the insurance for anything other than the theft of my motorbike a few years ago.

Atm, I'm stuck, without a car having to cycle back and fore to work and pretty annoyed that someone tried to steal my car too!

What do you think i should do now? What sort of price do you think they will give me for the car? Apparently there are only 3 left of these in the uk (what a mate of mine said)

new door, new ignition barrel etc etc, shouldnt cost more than £100 to fix if you get the parts off here?

why would u even go thru the insurance? just going to be a world of pain and premium riser. get the car back asap to save storage costs and fix it. Insurance wont pay much, maybe not many left but rare doesn't equal valuable, its a £300 in their eyes.

I haven't officially gone through the insurance yet. The towage company want £150 for moving the car from where it was to their compound. I dont have that kind of money at all.

Its not the cost of fixing it thats the problem for me, its the cost of getting it out of the recovery place.

quicker you do the better mate, they usually charge a daily fee of £50+

Sorry to hear that bud. Can you borrow some money off a family member or friend? Get the car back, and decide then. I know how much this means, your car is your pride and joy!

Possibly get the door bent back and fix the barrel - that won't cost too much!

I just got my car back from being stolen (you've probably seen the thread) the police insisted on recovering it for their own purposes (forensics) in which case in my opinion they should pay the recovery cost. I'm arguing with my local police about this and have lodged a complaint officially and I will not top until I get my £150 back.

remember this is what taxes are for, to investigate crimes. If they took it from the place it was dumped (the scene of the crime) to examine it, that should come from their budget.

get it out of the compund asap, they charge per day and i wouldnt go through insurance either, will cost you more in the long run

the predicament your in is highly problematic as the police take a long while to dust for prints then when the recovery firm get hold of it they impose stupidly high charges on a vehicle this is fine in the case of uninsured/untaxed drivers but for someone whos been victim of a crime its bloody ludacris as said id get the car back as soon as possible then take it up with the police/recovery firm about getting some if not all of your money back as one its not your fault it got there and two its you who was victim now there trying daylight robbery anyhow good luck with this i hope it gets sorted soon

Screw the insurance they will rape you hard, also maybe move to a different area and get robbed less? Either that or get an immobiliser
