I'm looking at and pricing up turbo'ing my AEE on carbs for banter etc,

IIRC it's 9.5:1ish standard.

Think mine calculated to 10.7 or 10.8 when I checked.

Are there off the shelf plates? Or do I need to get one made using a HG as a template?

Also does anyone know the thickness of a standard head gasket once the heads torqued? I lost my sheet of measurements.

Obviously I'm going to gain the thickness of the decomp plate and another HG. I think around 8-8.5:1 will be ideal, so I can calc the extra volume increase.

Also, does anyone know if ARP offer conrod bolts for These engines? Though 20vt ones may work come to think of it - may aswel change them when the sump is off whilst I'd be fitting the oil drain.

Not sure which page its on but he does say he got a decomp plate and gives a web address for where he got it from.

I believe it was made by copying the HG and was made to the thickness he wanted for a certain compression ratio,

Cometic do a range of different thickness head gaskets for almost every engine, If they dont have it in their catalogue, they'll make it, Click Me I used them for my VR6, better option that 2x gasket with spacer inbetween.

Found the prices on the site, they are £90 for 1" and £118 for 2"

I'm guessing he means mm lol not inches and search eBay for polo decompression Harris and see if one of the two that comes up match your head as I'm gunna look at one of them two for my afh if one is right or close need only like 40 quid roughly

That's the one I'm on about on eBay and it's 1.5mm thick but you can ask for a diff thickness

Got mine of ebay over a year ago and is exactly the same as the aee headgasket. Really well made. Dunno if they still make them.

^That'll make them heavier though harrris. Which wont be good for the longevity of the engine

All this talk of boost is making me want to keep the polo as a full on project and try turboing it. Anyone have any idea of if the standard avy bottom end can take a worthwhile amount of boost? The rods are certainly chunkier than the afh rods

Actually £120 sounds about right i did buy it over a year ago.

Guy just boost it man, bolt mechano to rods before fitting

I do know the AVY/ARC will take up to around 200bhp with around 8psi of boost before death on standard internals
