If you look at the one on heritage it lists the Type2/25

The contact idents on that relay are the same as shown in the Polo diagrams and in the picture of the relays I posted earlier

Yep, they look electrically correct. Only difference is that the Polo ones are potted for their underbonnet location and hence waterproof - whereas the Golf ones are in-cabin unsealed items. Get some silicone sealant and it'll be reet though...

Yep, although i found a thread on an american vanagon forum saying about the fuel pump relay on those with this part number, and someone said the fan relays different even though it has the same part number! I don't see how that can be.

The vw heritage one looks promising, the golf one has the fifth terminal in a different place so that would require some adaptation.

Interestingly vw heritage list that one for these models:

Unfortunately i can't see the terminal layout for that one but i google imaged the part number and the terminals look correct s fingers crossed. Think i'll order one when i get home.

I said that, did some more checking and the terminals appear to be in a slighty different position meaning adaptation to the loom:

Bugger!!

Not ideal, but you might just be able to do that with a set of spade connectors and some short wires so it's a reversible alteration. Or make the wiring a mile long and fit it under the dash somewhere.

The four large ones will be the same, as they are industry standard fitting, it will only be the small connection if any that might be in a different poition

what came of this? did you make the relay fit? I'm desperate for one and cant find one anywhere!

Yes it does fit, its the Mk3 Golf GTi 8v and 16v ecu relay, the terminals are in different places though so you need to remove the spade connectors from the black mounting block and change there positions. I can get a note of the positions if you want tomorrow, but as long as you go by the numbers it should be good. I have a feeling i ended up switching two wires around to get it to work properly though.

I got mine off ebay, a new pattern one for just over £12 all in. This one:

I can get more details of the genuine one too if you want. They will need sealing with some silicone but since fitted its been faultless, goodluck

so you just took the individual wires and connected them straight into the relay? or did you still plug them into the block? how did you get them to fit with the funny offset 5th pin?

I removed the spade terminals from the block (requires a little screwdriver to bend a locking tab back), i then refitted the spade terminals in the block in the correct positions. The block has the spaces for the extra terminal already so is obviously a universal two relay mounting block if that makes sense. So there is a space for the new little terminal.

It does require a new spade terminal though for the new terminal, since the new terminals the smaller size meaning the old female spade won't fit in the correct space, its one of the very small spade terminals if that makes sense.

Ahh! your a star! thanks mate, really appreciate the help :) was soo stuck with this. you should do a write up and put it in the FaQ. I'm sure soo many people with gt's and g40's will be suffering with this.
