Sooooo this is how it stands atm in the garage i got some carpet. rolling round on cold concrete wasn't an option (thanks jim)




all windows are now out! need to get the headlining out for respray but it can stay in there for the moment i need to find another headlining or get one made as the one in there atm is ruined

because I'm putting the battery in the boot now. i hav got a battery tray off ebay only about £20



it comes with a strap to hold it to the tray and its made of ali so its light too
I've countersunk the holes so i can use taper headed bolts to hold it down but i need to know where to put it in the boot before i start drilling holes

this is were I'm thinking...

It has to go on the left side because on there the spare wheel well is. Some people I've talked to about it say put it right at the back of the boot so there is more weight over the back wheels and some say put it right on top of the axle at the front of the boot but I'm still thinking atm. if u have any ideas please tell me

Havant really done that much more atm as I'm going on a skiing holiday next week so need money for that but i have been buying lots of bits over the last few months:

lightened and balanced fly off peteg40 , gt inlet, 22mm master cylinder, new brake pressure regulator, soild rear axle bushes


uprated drive shaft, uprated lower rad bar, 13 row mocal oil cooler with thermo plate, and some vactan off ebay its like kurust but better.

quaife lsd and brand new never used headlight protectors even with the fitting instrustions lol

I've my battery in the boot, as per your second picture location, if you ever fold your seats down it stays out of the way, as for £20 for a battery tray ? could have pinched one from anouther car!

Haha thanks dude yeah I think I will put it at the back tbo and the battery tray is well made tbo and its perfect size for 063 battery.

so I've now decided to put the battery right at the back of the boot as it just more out of the way. i was talking to SuperMario who gave me some tips. i will run an earth from the battery straight to the body in the boot and maybe run an earth to the front to the earthing point in the scuttle, then use a junction box and connect the three permanent lives (in original loom) to that, and one biggish cable from the box to the battery and maybe run an inline fuse just i case i get a dead short (don't want the battery blowing up in the boot)

also got this off jim (runforrestrun) today

its off an early mk2 fits straight into the same place as the mk2 in the boot

I'm deleting the rear wiper anyway so instead of having a bottle at the front i will just use this little one connect the old rear washer pipe to it and connect that to the front washers, then just run the wires for the front washers to the back. so then i have more room at the front for a catch tank. the only thing is it only holds like just over a litre so will have to top it up all the time but thats not a problem :)

I'm also gonna get back into welding again and make my own rear strut brace and maybe some other bits that i think of along the way.

Sorry I'm crap at updating this, havnt really done that much since back from holiday...

i started prepping the bay before i went away

and then when i got back found that some areas had rusted throw :( i think it was down to painting in cold weather so will have to strip it all back again and do it properly, yaaayyy

i have also drill the holes for the battery tray in the boot I'm putting it right at the back in the corner, its more out the way and also means more weight over back wheels.

got some psd phase 1 pulleys as well, the charger pulley inner guide was buggered so i took it off re-positioned it and made my own counter sinks in the guide, then put new bolts in with thread lock sorted

some more goodies:

shorted and conical valve guides

windage tray

supercharged badge off lance@trimsport (deffo recommend him)

started to make my rear strut brace!

still waiting to get the tube but i have made the end plates up

i then used a old silencer at work to bend them round and the used my mate jims old rear turret to shape it so it fits the strut nice

so just need the tube then i can measure that up and weld it together.

77mm pistons and rods ordered

Got my bit of tube for the rear strut brace today, so just need to cut it to length and weld the ends on, need to make sure it's a tight fit but should be a ok job to do.

Just layed it out to see what it looked like :)

regarding the battery, wouldnt it be wise using bigger bolts to hold it in place, a battery weighs a fair bit and a hard crash i could easly see them bolts giving way. thats what i think - they could be plenty strong enough though.

I decided to just take the headlining out today

The back of the headlining by the boot is rotten and crispy so I think I'm gonna get one made for it as its a bit of a mess

Also when I took the boot seal off found some rust where the seal sits in places :( so will have to sort that out.

I stripped two spare front struts as well so I can send them away for coilovers after the shell is done:)

And next weekend the guy who is respraying my shell is coming round to have a look and hopefully book it in :)

But need to do a lot more prep work yet so will be book for around 5 weeks time I think.

Done some bits today, battery tray fitted now with bigger bolts. one of the bolts has to go through the chassis leg so i just drilled a 15mm hole in the bottom of the chassis leg so a 13mm socket can just fit up in the leg to tighten the nut up.

because the bolts stick up the battery will sit on the 4 bolts so i think I'm gonna make something up so that the battery isn't just sat on those 4 points.

also got a omp front strut brace i am going to drill the holes and test fit tomorrow, might have to grind a bit of the back of it tho as the bonnet hits it when u close it, easy fix

also made up my rear strut brace, took me ages just grinding a little bit off at a time to make it fit nice i snug, but it fits perfect now and will be welding it together tomorrow :)

so i need to sort out all my body prep work again and a few other thinks then can get it resprayed woop!

Looks familiar lol, keep it up tho pal, while its stiped like that, it would bea good idea to invest in some extra sound denting sheets and insulation in them pockets!

do u think? my daily mk2 polo isn't that loud when driving around and sound deadening is proper heavy stuff!

no i have a mk2 bready as a daily and a mk2f g40 as a project and yeah i guess i could :)
