Those seats are lovely. Are they Ford recaros?

Yeah Ford seats mate, took me ages to find a mint set with that patten.

Would have liked to have seen lighter coloured wheels, but I'l reserve judgement until they are on. How long until its finished?

I was a bit worried they might look a bit dark, but they ant as bad as in the picture. I think they will look sweet! I was going for the same colour as the seats and they pretty much are so fingers crossed. Not a fan of silver wheels on a red car. Depending on my recovery really, will deffo be ready for next polo social.

Finally able to get back on with it now! Been nearly 3 months since I last did something on it :(

Anyway today I pressed my new FAG front wheel bearings and Febi drive flanges into my coil overs

I got a new patten fuel tank ages ago that I painted and went to fit before I went into hospital but I wasn't happy with the fit of it, was all wrong, it fits and would work but just not a nice fit, with some bending of the filler neck it would fit fine. Come across a genuine tank for sale that was pretty new with very little surface rust so I bought that!

Spent most of today cleaning it up and using a wire wheel to get rid of the surface rust

Then coated it in zinc primer

Tomorrow I'm gonna seam seal around the edges and around the bottom of the filler neck then coat it with Hammerite. I would of had it powder coated if it was new but it had fuel in it so not a good idea. I will then stone chip the areas exposed to try stop it from rusting out in the first few years.

So today I seam sealed around the filler neck and seams of the tank

Then coated it in hammerite, when thats dry I will stone chip the exposed areas.

Hopefully It will last for a far amount of time now....

Removed steering arm ball joint and inner rose joint dust covers cleaned and re-greased them

O/S non adjustable steering arm painted and dust cover back on!

Wire wheeled the rust off the steering arm fixings and adjustable side joints and rear axle mount bolts ready for some paint to stop them rusting again too quickly.

Put some grip tape on my freshly powder coated throttle pedal!

And stuck on some new door check strap foam seals (still need to paint the door bolts)

Got the parts I cleaned up primed just need to paint them black then there done!

Also took my cv joints apart today

Messy job I hate CV grease!

Cleaned the rust of the joint housings and primed them.

Then painted them with some paint I had left over from the gearbox.

Cleaned all the crap off the joint cages and bearings, then put them back together, bit fiddly but not to bad.

Also painted up the clips for the bolts ha

Tomorrow will rebuild the shafts got an uprated O/S shaft and 4 new cv boot kits as the old boots were about to split and were cracking up.

Got the shafts built back up with new boots, clips bolts and both shafts powder coated

Also got a new old stock audi brake fluid cap as the sensor plug sits a lot lower that the polo ones so i can still use the level sensor as my strut brace is very low and fouled the polo cap.

Finally time to fit the fuel tank! New strainer and sender seal

Stuck the foam to the top of the tank and fitted the sender unit.

Breather pipes fitted, not using a charcoal canister so cut the black pipe and fed it down the side of the tank like the mk2 tanks do.

Fitted a treat! no issues really. Powder coated tank strap fitted. Fuel flap with stainless bolts.

Powder coated fuel pump bracket, new rubber mounts. Also removed the old rubber fuel pipes from the hard lines and fitted new ones with crimp clips. Uprated fuel pump rated to 250bhp.

Just a case of bolting things back on now! Most things have be bought now just wiring to sort out!

Now the tanks fitted I wanted to get the car rolled out to clean up the garage as it was a mess! So started bolting all the suspension on!

Decided to use standard replacement febi rear axle bushes as i don't want it being to twitchy. Powder coated rear axle, new mounting bolts.

Gaz coilovers rears springs are 10" 160ibs to start with will mess around with the damping adjustment when its on the road!

Powder coated rear axle mounts fitted.

Axle and coilovers on (wond right up at the moment so its easy to work on and jack up) Mk2 Golf GTI stub axles for rear disc conversion and new backing plates.

I have camber shims to fit when I get the alignment done.

New febi bearings and Pagid rear discs

Used my tool to tap in the bearing races so much easier!

Bearing packed with grease ready to fit the discs.

Need to rebuild my callipers yet so will just put the wheels on like that until they are done.

Steering arms all painted, boots removed greased and refitted.

Drive shafts and steering arms fitted.

Then fitted front struts. Springs are 7" 275ibs, need to see what its like with body roll as there is now no ARB..

nylon outer TCA bushes fitted to my refurbished G40 TCA's :)

Brembo Max 256 discs on. I have new discs backing to fit but will put them on when I put the callipers on.

As you can see the garage is a shit hole! So I really wanted to roll it out to clean the garage!

So got the temp steels on and finally got it rolling again!

For some reason I didn't get any pics of it outside.. Ha, but I will next week. Its soooo red in the sun

Nice and tidy ready to get this thing finished!!

In the week at work I got a bit of time to clean and paint up the door catches wanted to get them zinc plated but they are near enough impossible to take apart.

But they look fine painted up I think. Came out quite well.

Thats all I managed to do in the week due to me having my MOT assessment next week so have been practicing my routine! Had a few nice BMW's turn up for the open day at work.

Was at the British Superbikes today but yesterday after work got the rear spoiler on, clean it up and used new butyl seal tape.

Then did something I wish I never started but needed doing. Took my Ford RS turbo RECARO seats apart to sort out the bolsters, base foam as it was ripped and clean up the frames.

Love the seats there are soo comfy but will be spot on after they are cleaned up and sorted out!

This build makes me wanna cry

Such good quality stuff going on, literally not a corner cut!

Little update, hoping to get quite a bit done this bank holiday weekend!

Took a trip down to hobby craft.. Got some foam sheets and felt sheets.

Used the foam on the bases, just used fabric spray adhesive to stick the split back up then wrapped them in foam, I have new stronger base sheets under the base to fit so it will stop them from sinking when sat it them.

Then on the bolsters because of the shape I used felt sheets and did the same thing as the bases and on the underside where the frame sits inside I have put additional foam to make them more padded again. £80 for 2 new ones was not a option ha quite happy with them though to be honest they wernt really that bad!

Then found the seat base frames were cracked... So got the welder on them, luckily I saw them I couldn't see them lasting long if I didn't.

They were a bit rusty aswell

So borrowed my mates shot blaster and cleaned them up

I've put a few coats of hammerite on them, none of it can be seen then they are all back together so didn't need to look to fancy just stop them from getting any worse. Will get some pics once I've built them back up!

Also rolled it out for a bit, sun went in though :(

Started rebuilding the seats wasn't no where near as bad as I thought it would be, new modified spring beds as the old ones were split and you just sunk into the seat.

Base all done all held on with new hog rings and staples.

First one all done!

Second one took half the time as I knew what to do! :)

Then fitted my homemade seat bases freshly powder coated.

Stoked with how they came out, don't fall into the seat anymore and the sides have a lot better shape!

Lovely g and stunning build. Surprised that your not going to put a stock interior back in it though.

Thanks! I do have the Stock interior that I can put in anytime I'm just not really a fan of the coulor and its all faded from the sun so it's like gone purple.. These seats hold you a lot better too compared to the standard seats.

Have you had the recaros in the car yet? They look a bit lower than the standard seats which is exactly what the seating position needs in these cars.

Yep made them so they suit me! I'm 6ft4 so need to be really low!

They will look well nice in the car an a fine job you have done on them as well

I don't understand why VW never used recaro seats in the first place

Cheers, VW seat from that time was made by recaro just never stamped up as them all the side trims and adjustment wheels are identical to VW ones just never made them with as much padding as they did for ford!
