Featured Replies

hi guys i recently bought a set of fk powerlooks. i am havin problems with the wiring as i dont know what goes were iv got a 96/97 model polo without electric height adjustment, i know that two of the plugs from the new wiring loom which came with the powerlooks go to the back of the headlights. i need some help from you guys who have already got them and fitted them to your cars as this is the first time I'm fitting them to mine lol il try and upload sum pics of the plugs which i aint sure about where they go and it would be a great help if someone could shine some light on this for me. and what r the two red wires for with the connectors on the ends. where do they go?

I'm not sure where the black plug goes from this picture can someone shed some light on this for me as you would have probably have done this already. if I'm right in sayin the two white plugs fit directly into my original wiring loom which is on the car? can people please get back to me asap as i want to put these on as soon as. :-D

The black plug looks like the standard headlight connector The pic is for the 7 pin connector but the wiring for the basic headlights are the same pins and wire colours

so were does that black 7pin plug, plug in? cos mine are the four pin headlamps n i dont have anywhere to connect them to :? n my original connectors for my original headlamps r like a oval shape n the ones that have come with the new wiring is like on a square block sort of connector if that makes ne sense to you.

The seven pin is on the headlights that have the electric beam adjust motors in them.

so i wont need to use that plug then would i cos i dont have the electric beam adjustor do u knw what the red wires r for in the pic? this is longer than i thought lol

that wiring loom should connect to the original passenger headlight plug and the other two go the the new head lights. its so when you put on full beam the dipped buld doesnt turn off as it would with your standard as its a now a H7 bulb not a H4..

edit : the 2 red wires go to the positive terminal on the battery

yeah iv had a look at that, u talkin about the lil white square sort of connectors yeah? i want to know where the other black connector goes with pins init its in my pic cos theres the two that go two the back of the headlights n then you got the two connectors which go to your original headlight connectors and then you got one left which I'm not sure about and thats the one with 7pins init

take out the headlights and use this diagram and the wiring sequence below...

17fd5548.jpg

use the loom provided with your lights like in the picture above

the plug that giving you bother is the one in the top left of the diagram as it isnt the right shape for where it connects to....chop this plug off and then chop off the plug that this would be going into and wire or solder them accordingly...

82e7d29d.jpg

the ones you need on the car loom are:

Brown = earth

white and black = main

yellow and black = dip

grey and black = side

wire them accordingly

yellow = yellow/black

brown = earth

white = white/black

twin grey = grey/black

there are 6 thinner wires if i remember correctly in three colours red blue and black discard those as this is for the headlight adjust ment which cant be used.

hope that helps

this is only for pre 98 cars post 98 looms plug straight in without need for wire chopping etc

Rather than starting my own thread.

Quick question to anyone who is running powerlooks.

What bulbs are you running in them?

Do I need two H7's and one W5W LED for each light?

Correctamundo! You need 4 H7 bulbs all together, 2 for full / main beam and 2 for dipped.

Also normz_dub did you get the wiring sorted out in the end? :D

Have you got the relays connected? If not then for testing you could bridge two of the four pins in the connector for the relay. Iirc one will have two yellow wires and one will have two white wire, as well as having a red and a brown. Thenswitch them on, the should work. If you have the relays then make sure you connect the red wires to the battery + post. Also when using this loom one an earlier car that used 4 pin lights, best thing to do is chop off the male plug and the passengers 4 pin female socket then solder the wires together as above. You should have three wires left over (red, blue and black) these can be left to the side.

Hi,

I am considering upgrading my 213 000km ran headlights to see the grave, updating them into something simply due winter mode and I don't see anything.

Glass from 1995 is gone matte, moist is all over, and the paint has gone matte I suppose. The FK / DEPO / AD "powerlooks" are by far one of the better looking options, and I'd want to combine them with OEM white turns up front to dampen the "crystal clear 2000 style".

But,

Atleast my car has the 4 pin connectors for the OEM headlights. Wouldn't it just be possible to take these out of the OEM lamps and swap for the 7 pins at the powerlooks?

You can do that, but it is easier and better to use the supplied harness because the wiring is better and will greatly improve the output.

I would just use a cut off connector or solder the new harness to the existing one before the original one so this way you will.have both the 4 and 7 pins

  • 1 year later...

I have just brought some of these head lights and they are 4 pin and the car is 7 pin how do I fit it and where do I splice the new loom in is it on the passenger side plug
