1.4 is costly at 19yr old tbh. I only had a 1.1 saxo at 18yr old and it was £1100. Depends on so many factors, where you live/risk factors/policy excess/if its garaged or on the street.

Try adding family to it that have been driving for many many years. Or even put a family member as a name driver until your 21.. its not ideal but might be a option?

illegal, its called fronting

When I was 19 I added my mum on my insurance as a named driver and she actually drove it more than me she preferred my punto gt turbo to her 5 series bm so drove it most days. Just make sure she actually drives it so your not fronting it to drive the cost down

since when has it been fronting to add a family member to your policy? If it were the other way round, i.e. the main user of the car being listed as the named driver, then yes it would be fronting. Adding experienced drivers to your policy can reduce premiums and is perfectly legal.

If its the family members actual policy and only putting there son as a named driver its not illegal. It IS illegal when the person has the car in there own name and then puts there parent as a main driver. I know many friends back in the day that just got there parents to fully insure the car cause its cheaper. But the son doesn't get any no claims..

my bad i misread it, you are correct Jonboi!

No problem dude. Its a confusing subject tbh

lol adding my mum or dad who both have over 15 years no claims makes my premium go up! is this because i dont live with them?

could be. postcodes do play a big part in premium costs. what you need is an uncle or someone who lives in a rural low crime area

Well my answer to that is go on one of them tracker systems that u can't drive at night from 11pm till 5am the next morning will save you a hell of a lot of money I was with motaquote when I was 17 and 18 and they insure cars up to group 15

i added both my mum and stepdad as second drivers to my insurance, took off nearly a grand!

but I'm still the policy holder and main driver, so its all legal (:

i would rather pay £500 more and be able to drive when i want, also if you have to go anywhere between 11pm-5am you'd get hit with a £100 fine or be stuck without transport.

the trackers don't only record what time you drive, they also record your speed, acceleration, braking, where you are and where you have been.

people who buy insurance from these companies are funding the technology to be able to track every car on the road and process the data. it won't be long before everyone will forced to have a tracker installed and be watched by big brother.

I have my dad named on one of the vans and it brings my quote down a little, means he's got it if he needs it as well.

Well it cut mine by well over a grand and when I had to pay every penny and I wasn't working that much and if I did drive between them hours it was £50 fine or if it was a legitimate emergency it was free so I didn't mind that but at 19 I needed my car at night with my job and it was cheap enough with my mummy on it

make sure you park it on the driveway not in a garage, its cheaper.. i dont know why? haha!

try putting a named driver on the policy (ie. your mum or dad) that also brings it down.

£2155.80 for my 1.3 polo, I'm 17 with no NCB

I totally agree with polo45 here. Funding compulsory tracking systems for all vehicles if you insure with those companies. I'm sure some of them have G meters in aswell, so they know how hard your cornering. My cousin is having one in his car when starts driving, so he will have to drive everywhere like an OAP and abide by a curfew, where i can drive whenever, however and wherever i want, without Big Brother watching (and fining) me. Definately worth the extra, no matter how much!

Oh, and to the OP, Get a smaller engined car is my advice. I started with a 900cc MK1 Polo, and it was about £1400, with 0 no claims, me as main driver and my dad named. And i'm driving a 1.0l MK3 now, with nearly 3 years no claims, and its about £650 a year, third party fire and theft, on a modified policy, unlimited mods :-)

fully comp can be cheaper :?

co-op insurance has a g meter tracker, that also tracks your cornering. they will terminate your policy if you consistently speed, corner hard etc and make it harder and more expensive to get insurance again. completely stupid idea and i see no reason why people should fund it. soon we'll be tagged just to make our home insurance go down..

also, fully comp is generally cheaper for younger drivers.

Well when I did it they only had the i-kube unit it didn't do any of those only activated if you drove after 11pm or if the car was stolen had my own code to type into a website if it got stolen to find out where it was and if it was still moving

11pm curfew is a bit silly still

i tried having a look at what this co-op thing would be like on my polo and.... "sorry, your car is too old" so then you have to have spent a lot on a new car to be insured, only to be able to drive at certain times and stick to 30 most places...

fuck big brother.

just been quoted 1901 for my polo now, no tracker, this is getting cheaper and cheaper I'm buzzing. still p'd off at the fact its 2 grand though, come on, i'm 17.

hmmmm, i know how you feeel dude! insurance is beyond a joke! I'm 18 next month, and got my test a week or 2 after, but iv been on provional insurance for a year so iv got a years no claims!

for my 1L mk3 i also own, thats 1685.

insurance is expensive but people who say its 3+ grand are exaggerating a little you definitely can bring it down.

also, that years NCB will really help at 18
